Hey all.

I noticed a trend here on this forum only (maybe it's elsewhere?) where you put a quoted message underneath what you write.

Normally, forums do this:

QUOTE
reply

But here, it's:

reply
QUOTE

So bizarre to me. It doesn't make sense! I mean, I understand how maybe a long time ago, one person did it, and others thought it was normal and followed along (it's not the norm among most forums), but even ignoring that momentarily, it would make sense to have the quote you're replying to first.

I start reading someone's reply and I'm like "what is this person talking about...?" And then I see they've got the quote underneath all their text.

I'm guessing it's because many involved in internet marketing may be new to the internet and haven't really seen the need to visit other forums, so when they started searching "making money online", and slowly found "internet marketing", they found Warrior Forums.

Anyone got any ideas on this weird phenomenon? It's so odd.

What are you talking about? I know what is appropriate. And Yes.

I think it's because many people have poor communication
skills and tend to be focused on themselves rather than
    others.

They think that it's more important to speak than to listen.

They think more about themselves than they do about the
    person reading the post.

However, if you're a better communicator, you know that
you'll get better results if you focus on the reader and
    their experience.

If you don't care about making your posts as easy for the
reader to read as possible, then it doesn't matter.

But if you want more people to read your posts because
they flow better and are easier to read, then it does.

I haven't noticed it being particularly difficult to read or figure out when I see it.

It's irritating when people do this.

I imagine in some cases they can't be bothered to scroll past the quoted type to click the cursor underneath in the reply box, but that's probably not the reason at all...

That is not a trend. It is only a couple people, and they are weird. The rest of us do it normally. The weird ones will figure it out eventually.

I'm glad to see so many replies from people who do it the ... for lack of a better word ... 'normal' way. It's reassuring and I think maybe I was wrong to assume 'most' do it this way here.

no i guss it dusnt matta. so long az u understand wat im saying, itz nut worth discuzzin, ey.

Grammar, spelling, structure are all integral to making the reading experience as easy as possible. WHY is this important? Well... there's a lot of information, and personally, I would appreciate information made as easy to read as possible. This way, not only am I more likely to read what you say, but I'm also more likely to understand what you're trying to say.

          I'm with you Matt.

It's already difficult enough to get an idea of a person over the medium of the Internet. It never does a person justice to type in such a way. Some might argue they are typing on a device however if the device isn't good for typing, it isn't good for typing.

I've completely ignored enquiries which contain such words inclusive of street talk such as "bro" and "dude", quite simply because it screams "I'm not serious".

Nowadays, I've become aware of where these type of people tend to be so I focus my marketing efforts elsewhere. Maybe my fault for looking in the wrong places!

Thankfully there's not too much of it here on the WF.

It always seemed goofy to me, but I've seen it on other forums too.

At least the people quoting a post have read a bit of the topic. Another strange forum habit around here is to just read the topic title, then hit reply. I've noticed a few topics where someone did not even read the first post that added more to what the topic starter was looking for.

Communication and social skills. You learn a bit every day, and there is a lot to them. I consider that I'm still learning to talk.

It's just a detail, but interesting to post about it. I had never thought of doing that.

Well that's just crazy. Everyone knows you should put the quote above and below your comment so even an idiot knows what you're referring to. :p

I always put my reply on top because it is THE MORE RECENT COMMENT. It seems more organized to me that way. As I have probably read the whole thread, it is irritating to read the original comment for the second time (other than for reference if I don't follow what the most recent comment refers to).

It's a personal preference and I never found any bylaws that say this is wrong (or right).

#1 I think you need to find something more important to worry about.

#2 I don't think you should use 'other' forums as a benchmark when it is first of all individuals, not forums that do this. If I went to another forum I would do the same thing - (gasp)

#3 Judge not lest ye be judged - I see all the haters jumped right in to pronounce their psychological and character analysis of this really bad transgression which is obviously indicative of bad breeding, bad grammar, laziness and conceit. Hope you all feel better now that you have condescended.

I do it both ways so that I'm at least 50% correct.

If someone asks a question I will normally place the quote on top and my
    reply below.

If someone says something I agree or dis agree with I might place it below
my reply so that they read my reply before they know I'm talking to
    them...lol

I've also been know to place my reply inside their quote either in Bold or
    another font and/or color.

    Just Saying,
    Have a Great Day!
