The new iPhone 4S, your thoughts?

I mean really, is it really necessary to come out with a new phone once a year? Leave it to Apple to come out with some new updates that you could just send as an update and a slightly new look and market it as "NEW" and "Innovative." They sure aced brainwashing 101. Just my opinion though.

Before I get bashed, let me preface by saying that I like Apple. I'd prefer to have an Apple laptop running Windows (of course) and an iPad as well. However, when it comes to phones, I'm perfectly satisfied with my droid based phone. I have no use for any extended features. Another reason I don't root my phone, despite people saying and me reading that it gives you more freedom and play to use your phone in more and better ways. So, you could say that I am the average user of technology and of course, my smart phone.

But what do you all think? Do you think that they are just growing so fast in technology that they are justified in creating a whole new phone every time or do you think that they could just send the updates as actual updates that could just be downloaded and installed? Is it technological advancement or just marketing genius? What do you say warriors?

    I was hoping for more new features or an iPhone 5. The 4S is the new 'stepping stone' phone to the 5 as was the iPhone 3GS to the 4. I am a little disapointed, however, I am ready to see it in action.

    yeah must say, i was little disappointed too, i was looking forward to the iphone 5, and the 4S was quite disappointing. but the Siri system does look impressive along with the i cloud... Ive stil got my 3GS, so i think this will be a decent upgrade.

      I think a lot were disappointed b/c after all that time of what, 16+ months, that's all they came up with for updates? They brag about the new chip and camera... uhhhh 2010 is calling, phones had those spec's last year. Notification system is still seriously flawed as someone pointed out on a forum using the final version of iOS5 (ex: say you have phone, email, facebook, text notifications, you unlock to check text and when it goes back to lock screen all notifications are gone, so all this time and they can't even get their hyped notification system to work correctly?). Apparently the phone will only use the higher HSDPA speeds of AT&T, if you get it with other carriers like Verizon your stuck with a slow 3g network (kinda pointless when plenty of phones now run on LTE/HSPA+, they should have just enabled HSPA+ from the get go since AT&T full networks has it everywhere pretty much).

      I'll still pry get one as I'm due for an upgrade and we were grandfathered in for unlimited before the rules changed. I wouldn't mind checking the new Droids out as I like them as well, however don't think AT&T will carry the unlimited plan I have over to that. What will suck though is the new Droids and even Windows phones (Mango is an awesome UI) will be coming out over the next year even more upgraded and new technology, so when iPhone 5 comes out next year they would have to do a complete hardware overhaul (doubt they will) or they'll be far behind what the new phones are doing.

      I have a 3GS that I've jailbroke and customized to the hilt, it's still a good phone, but little long in the tooth now. Thank god for Apple fan boys as I can still flip this phone for $250 today on CL when I only paid 200 for it 2 years ago lol.

    They really needed to come out with something a bit more impressive I think. I figured this release would have a bunch of people swinging back to Apple, or at least catch the people who were waiting for the next iPhone. But because of the lousy improvements, people are already switching to Android, at least the ones I know.
