I unfortunately don't have a link yet, but I saw a breaking news banner on the Yahoo homepage and Fox News is reporting on the development.

Crazy stuff. I'm sure much will be written and talked about over the coming days and weeks. The world of personal computers, music, (and ironically the cartoon industry) just lost the Walt Disney of our time.

And right after the release of iPhone 4S. Like he waited for the release. He's been sick for a long time so hopefully he left a good plan in place for his company. Apple didn't do very well when he left in the 80's.

Hopefully Apple has learned from the past and works to not repeat the fiasco that was the early 90's at Apple. That said, I hope they don't fall into the same loop that the Disney company did after Walt and his brother Roy passed away.

Thats probably the most accurate depiction of the man.

Its kind of interesting that there are a percentage of inventors and innovators who are on the payroll of someone else and that companies bosses get all the credit while you never hear the name of the scientist or team that invented it or opened up the vision.

This guy was both inventor, innovator, visionary AND BOSS..., I think thats a rare combination in one person.

I don't understand why people say "RIP." (I understand that it's a nice sentiment ...)

However surely that presupposes they may not "Rest In Peace." And I'm sure people like Steve Jobs will rest in peace.

Perhaps saying "have a nice day" presupposes that a person may not "have a nice day". We still say it though and I think that's okay.

I don't even own any of his products, with the exception of two ipods that no longer work. I, however, have done a lot of reading on his management style, the companies he's helm'd, etc.

I am really interesting to see how Wozniak responds to this. Even if they aren't the best of buddies it has to feel like losing a brother.

One of my favorite quotes from Steve was:

The only way to do great work is to love what you do. If you haven’t found it yet, keep looking. Don’t settle. As with all matters of the heart, you’ll know when you find it.

This is a very sad day.

Steve Jobs was a genius no doubt about that - and he was married with 3 kids (+1) - so he had a successful life and he made a big difference. It is sad for everyone that his life ended so soon.

He also had pain and suffering in his life and I am glad that is over with.

    Rest in Piece Steve Jobs!

The first news i see when i sign on for the morning is Steve Jobs dead. I was in a total state of disbelief.
The man was a genius, and a true inspiration for any entrepeneur. That speech he delivered at Stanford in 2005 is 1 of the most inspirational speechs i have heard. I'm gonna listen to it again and again - and really make an effort to follow his advice.

He changed the world - he will be missed. I just hope Apple can cope without him.

I usually don't watch TV that much, but today I did turn it on. One of the first things I heard was the tragic news of Steve Jobs' death.

I must admit that I don't own a single product produced by Apple, but I have always admired this great man. He had a dream, a vision. He has made a difference in the world, and has impacted our lives in one way or another.

When I learned about him having passed away, I could not help myself, and shed a tear. People are passing away every single day, and it's always tragic. But somehow... Jobs' death really made me very sad :-(

    Rest in peace!

Obama actually said something nice about Mr Jobs, "The world has lost a visionary. And there may be no greater tribute to Steve's success than the fact that much of the world learned of his passing on a device he invented."

I believe he was one of the most creative people of our time, sadly, most people my age, around me don't even know who he was. Hope that's not the case everywhere...

Saddest thing is there won't be anymore entertaining presentations from him.

Thanks for sharing your ideas with the world Mr Steve Jobs, you are a legend.

I think its really hard to quantify into words how his vision of better technology has really influenced the world. Obviously the first thing you think about is Apple computer, but there is so much more going on.

The man's vision, and the company that made it a reality, changed so many industries. Their products brought creativity at a more affordable level. You have no idea how many independent films and low-budget television shows are edited with Final Cut Pro running on Mac computers.

And that's just the tip of the iceberg. What about the music industry, that was literally turned upside down with the popularity of the iPod and iTunes... both of which undoubtedly spawned hundreds of clones that further increased the popularity of digital music.

Talk about turning industries upside down... the iPhone. Does anyone remember the smart-phone world before Apple iOS and the iPhone--which I truly believed caused Google to develop their own OS to compete on a mobile level.

He's taken the business model of many industries and simply said, "we aren't going to work like this anymore!" And he CHANGED it. He changed the way OTHER people operate their businesses with the visionary technology.

And then of course there was Pixar, something that he bought from George Lucas and (with the help of many artists and creative people) used to turn the cartoon industry on its head--like he did with many others.

Jobs' story is amazing. The ups and downs in this man's life are quite extraordinary when you realize what he accomplished in a relatively short period of time. It's now up to the company he left behind to keep up!
