I want to report Bright House

I'm really upset with Bright House, maybe someone can tell me who to report them to. I live in Clearwater and the last couple of weeks my connection has been getting slower and slower, but today is incredible. It's taken me over an hour to download a 400 MB file. I called them up and they sent me to this site
Bright House Networks Bandwidth Speed Test

to check my connection speed. It said 8.9 mbps. Then I went to CNET
CNET Bandwidth Meter: Online Speed Test - CNET Reviews

and they said my connection was 501 kbsp (just a little bit of a difference there!).

I've been getting calls from Bright House to upgrade to a faster bandwidth, so apparently they're really slowing things down to get people to upgrade. To say I'm furious is an understatement.

At any rate, I want to report them, but have no idea who to report them to. Does anyone have any ideas???

I'll also be checking into changing carriers. Anyone have any suggestions? I received info from Clear Choice - has anyone tried them?

Thanks!
Jenny

    Hey Jenny!

I had a problem like that with Comcast. The slow down was terrible, they denied it existed. Then I started having outages. They denied it was happening. I scheduled three service calls- they never showed (system auto cancelled.) (On the bright side I got three $20 credits out of that lol).

Finally I got pissed enough they sent someone out. He climbed the pole, and it turned out someone in the neighborhood had climbed up the poll, wired in, and was stealing cable and internet.

Their system couldn't detect that apparently, all they knew was that up to the pole, everything was fine, so they just pushed me aside as a loon.

It might be BrightHouse jacking people around to get them to upgrade.. or it could be something different.

The speed test results are funny though aren't they.

You are lucky you have a choice up there in Clearwater. Down here in Sarasota we have ONLY comcast. Fios isn't even available in 90% of the town yet I receive advertising for it weekly *snort*

    Good Luck!

Thanks for the tip. I called Bright House to send someone out and they'll be coming out Tuesday. I figured they were just trying to get people to upgrade, especially with the huge difference in bandwith speed with the 2 different tests.

      Jenny,
I can relate. Comcrap is terrible. And for at least 5 years we have been seeing those "switch to FIOS" ads,yet it isn't available and they can't say when it will be. We actually have a call in to comcrap for a supervisor to call us because there were none on duty when we called. Its been over a week and no call back. I'm ready to switch to DSL because I figure a decent DSL connection is better than a lousy comcrap one.

I recently had a problem with Brighthouse here in Tampa. They were all over it and it was fixed at 8:15 the next morning. (Poor workmanship from a former contractor.) My internet service and phone are top notch. Cable TV is crappy but that's not exactly their problem. TV is generally crappy and getting worse.

When you hear someone telling you what YOU can't do, they are usually talking about what THEY can't do.

ANY speed test is GARBAGE! They can only test WHILE they are testing, so they won't give you a good idea. Based on the size of your file, and the timings, you are getting about 888Kbps.(amount/3600(seconds in an hour) *8 approximate bits in a Byte) So BOTH tests were wrong! DESPITE what they say, usage CAN'T be consistent. It is possible that people are just watching a lot of movies, or downloading, and affecting your experience. If you REALLY want to report them though(I assume you are in clearwater florida USA), you can contact the FTC(false advertising, bat and switch, and breech of contract), and the PUC(utility fraud).

It IS possible it is just overuse! It COULD be a minor accident or setting related to the upgrade. Or it COULD be precisely as you imply. But the FTC(Federal Trade Commission) and/or PUC(Public Utility Commission) should set it right if they get the right clustering of complaints.

BTW WATCH COMCAST!!!!!!!!! I mean BE CAREFUL! They made a mistake IDENTICAL to one I had earlier with "another" company. They charged me for equipment I returned! In checking that, I found they were the SAME company! So TWO states pulled the SAME trick on me DECADES apart, and it was really the SAME company.

That said, they ARE a monopoly, so they are BOUND to pull this garbage.
