Xavion, 1980s Band: Dexter From X-Factor

Here is a song from X-Factor competitor Dexter's band Xavion in 1984. Wow, what a nice song. From reading the YouTube comments (meaning I know zilch about the band and its story), it seems Xavion just didn't get the right kind of coverage to hit it big time in the music industry. A lot of factors besides quality and actual talent go into commercial success:

    I really think that this Dexter guy has the so-called "x factor". If his band Xavion had moved to Japan, they would be doing very well I think, as lots of great neglected American jazz bands did. I wonder what happened to them. Squandering money? Expensive vices? Anyway, I hope they rise again.

      That one sort of shocked me. He has talent but his body movements are contrived to me. He be better if he'd go back to the stage presence of that video at least a little.

      I can't figure out Simon's fascination with that one girl - he let a couple women with really great voices and excellent final performances go and kept the one that almost lost out earlier.

      I channel surfed during last nights X Factor show - too damned much hugging and crying going on for me:p

        I'm vouching for Dexter Haygood and think he's great, but am wondering if something isn't being told. There are suspicious gaps in the story. I am concerned if he could be like a Ted Williams (Voice of Gold) redux.

    Dexter Haygood did not make it past the latest assigned a very strange song choice meant for young women to sing. He sang it well and put on a good show, but it was just plain wrong. Deliberately or unintentionally, Dexter Haygood was sabotaged with a completely unsuitable song choice. I hope that Twilight Zone, er X Files, I mean, uh, X Factor has opened up opportunities to present themselves elsewhere for him.
