7-11 versus AM/PM...who wins?

I never got to go to the old "Stop 'n Go" when these type 24/7 mini marts first came out.

I use to love AM/PM. They were everywhere and available.

I've now subconsciously banned them.

For one, I really don't get the long lines for gas, because I am looking at these folks and they do not appear to be "thrifty" or "frugal" shoppers watching their budget, simply because the few cents per gallon they save, they throw it away on crap they buy in the store....75-80% of the stuff you can buy MORE of it at cheaper prices elsewhere.

At the 99 cents store, for $1.99 , you can get a 2 or 3 liter soda and BIG bag of ice.

Second, different AM/PM stores close at unusual hours, so if you stop there, you never know if it is going to be open, and if the "late night" window is open, there is nothing special about that because most gas stations have that same service with products and prices that are parallel.

Thirdly, 7-11 is open 24/7 , there are MORE of them and you KNOW that if you see one, it is certainly open. There are two in my immediate area, one about 3 blocks away and the other is about 7 blocks away with a am/pm in between them.

Fourth, am/pm does not except anything except debit cards or cash, that really was the clincher for me to say adios to patronizing them.

I was running on empty in my car so I decided to go to am/pm...., their outside payment machine ONLY accepts debit, and the machine is a pain in the ass to boot. So I risked running out of gas to simply go up the street, 2 blocks, to a no fuss, quick in and out.

Anyway, I don't hardly go to the 7-11 stores except for a quick emergency or something because there are simply better deals and options, but if I needed something right away, mostly, late night or something, 7-11 is the choice.

Do you actually believe that the people waiting in lines out to the street for am/pm or Arco gasoline is actually stretching those 4 cents per gallon savings???

C'mon, now....,
