It's pretty important: without it, I'd have to work for a living instead of playing for one.

Let's put it this way: If you mess with me you will get the blue screen of death.

I am starting to feel like I live inside my computer. Everything else is just going back and forth to my computer.

I work, play, bank, shop, read, write, socialize online.

I know I need to get out more and get a 'real' life.

    Love,

I can say the internet is pretty important to me, but only because I can reach out to tons of people and try to help them.

If I was to lose the internet, with my knowledge now, I would probably be okay and figure out a way to make a good living in the read world.

But more than that, the internet has changed my life for the better and I am proud to say that I make a great living online and wouldn't want to do anything else.

With the internet I can travel anywhere in the world and still make an income in order to sustain the traveling as well So that's pretty epic.

With my ADHD, the internet can become a dangerous foe of productivity - there's always something else to do. Until lately I've used applications and plugins to curb the habits.

However, since moving into my new apartment this hasn't been an issue - because there's no lined internet! Haha

By being forced to tether, I've started to really focus on the things that will get me the most beneficial reward - and limit my time online.

    Unplugging is magic.

I've lived without Internet before. I could do it again. There are even advantages in not using Internet for some things. For example, sending in a postcard, query or demo by snail mail is more likely to get noticed since it's all mostly sent by email nowadays. If you want privacy, stay away from Internet or cellphones. Internet is a tool and Its plug can be arbitrarily pulled by powers-that-be (or the Illuminati, as my brother would call them).

Without the internet I would have died of an early age.

The internet gave me music, decent advice, and other things that I wouldn't have been able to live without.

It is like the giving tree, except it can never die and can only give.

Sorry if this comes off as a rant but these threads drive me crazy.

How important is electricity in your life?

How important is indoor plumbing in your life?

How important is motorized travel (cars, trains, etc.) in your life?

Sure, we could live without these things. At one time in our history we did live
      without them.

Point is, we DO have them and they ARE a part of our life.

The Internet, computers, etc. are no different. They are a part of our life.

So why do we always have these questions?

Why does nobody ever ask how important electricity or indoor plumbing or
motorized travel is? Why is it we take THOSE things for granted but not the
      Internet?

I have the Internet and I use it. I'm not going to justify using it anymore
than I would justify why I don't take a crap out in my backyard.

When I started putting computers together on wire-wrap S-100 boards, or modifying TRS-80's The internet was 2 computers running UUCP. Now It is integrated into practically everything and there is not much of the wild-west aspect to it. Frankly, I am wondering what the next wild west will be, if any!

But, I recall that life was simpler then, and some things meant a lot more than they do now. Sometimes I would like to make enough money to do what I want, and then shut the damn thing down and never log in again.

Not sure how practical that would be...

My entire income comes from business on the web. More than half of my entertainment is online. I keep in touch with friends and family around the world online. I pay all my bills online. I purchase many things online. I occasionally order food deliveries online.

So while it can't replace the joy I receive at the beach, an amusement park, on the golf course or in the arms of a beautiful woman, it is pretty darned important!

Not only is the internet my means of making a living allowing me the luxury to "work" form anywhere any time I have a connection, but it also allows me to stay in touch with all my real world business associates, friends and relatives.

I wouldn't know anything that was going on with all these people if it weren't for email and the social networks.

That is why it is also on my phone, also. More positive reasons why I love the internet than I can list here, actually.
