7,000,000,000 People?

It'll go 'pop' at 9 billion expected to be reached within the next 20 years.

The planet is unsustainable at 9 billion.

I wonder how many people you have to have before they start falling off the earth?

Wow, just think about all those people to market to! Way cool.

And when I reach my 100 year birthday there will only be 10.5 billion. Maybe they will all watch me go sky diving on my hundredth.

It's unsustainable at 7 bil. 6.5 is critical mass. We're in the first phases of the dominant species decline - unfortunately, we're taking a lot of other species with us. Should start stabilizing around 2 to 3 billion. When that happens there will probably be manditory global population control. After losing 2/3 of population within a few year spread we'll probably find survivors in agreement with that one.

We are crossing the 1 bil starving mark now, with tens of thousands dying daily. In normal conditions that would bring the number of starving down - but it's not, it's rising. That's the first indication the famine is already in the onset. There's effort being made to save some harder hit area's ecosystems and make sustainable habitation for humans but not much can be done with the population increasing as fast as it is. There are a few countries in which governments are still yapping about needing more people - and it's basically an economic concern, not a scientifically realistic one. When you build economies in pyramid tiers, you need a very large bottom base. If they need more people they could import a lot of em that are in countries that the only means of survival already is foreign aid.

Global food storages were down to nothing 2 years ago and the weather cooling helped replace some food stocks in the last two growing seasons, generally. Some places got hit hard but others were producing high. A lot of countries have cut export amounts in order to build stocks for their own citizens. If we have any global weather events this winter that ruin crops, there will be distribution wars starting as early as next year.

America has some stock, but we also have 1/6th of our population on food stamps and the number is rising - up to 47 mil now I think, last time I looked. Not everyone that dies in a major famine will die of hunger. Once you go past a certain mark there will be wars over supplies just as you see wars over oil now.

I thought the population doubled every 20 to 40 years.

Anyway, it was once thought that the world could not manage today's population, but the great planes farmers have tapped into the continental water tables underground.

But that water is being drained, fast.

Factor in the fact that there have been no new oil refineries built in years, plus the allegedly dwindling oil supplies, and you have a recipe for a life in exciting times

God my head is stuck in the 80's - I still have it stuck on 4.5 billion

Lets face it thats way too many humans - what are we trying to achieve ?

Convert the universe to meat ?
