Is that ridiculous pants hanging halfway down the underwear way of dressing still in fashion? I first saw it with a comic wearing it on the Nutty Professor and that was funny. Then, I started seeing it for real. And it's lasted for years and years. I guess each generation has to find a way of self-presentation that annoys preceding generations -- I understand that. Is it finally going away? I'm just hoping that it'll soon be gone and that whatever emerges next won't look so stupid.

LOL I couldn't agree more. I have no idea how anyone can think it looks good. So many young people walk around with loose pants, and their undies almost hanging out. The new generations of young people have no idea in my opinion

  • Remember when dressing like that was embarrassing? (not that it isn't now...)
It used to be clothes didn't fit you because they were hand-me-downs -

What really cracks me up is a kid who has to wear a shirt and tie to work - but thinks he can still pull off the 'butt crack' look - FAIL!

With older brothers, I got hand-me-downs all the time. I just used a belt if I needed to.

      Pun intended?

I don't know if it is still in style, but I always wanted to tell the kids to please pull their pants up. Kids in schools here in Texas cannot dress that way. They have strict dress codes. Of course, they can dress any way they want to when they are not in school.

I remember when I thought I was a hotty in my skin tight dittos, halter top and three inch high wedge shoes. My parents probably thought otherwise.

I agree, each generation has a style that annoys preceding generations.

      I like it.
It adds a whole new comic effect to the show "Cops".
Ever watch someone with their pants falling off trying to run from the cops?
Now that's some funny stuff right there.

Strange enough, I'm curious as to the origin of the style.
Maybe the idea came from brainstorming underwear manufacturers discussing market strategies
for advertising and promoting (displaying?) their brand of underwear. LOL

Some people often suggest that it originated in the prison environment, where inmates have little or no say as to their garment sizes,
but I can't believe that .. not easily.

However, if researchers should discover that the habit indeed originated in prison,
then I might be able to figure what was being advertised, and why.

I used to complain but my mom refreshed my memory with a 1985 photo of me looking like a beige Cyndi Lauper. All I can do is make sure my kids have proper fitting clothes and hope the next fashion trend doesn't make me barf.

OK, I'll confess that some of the stuff I wore as a teen was cringe-worthy. Thankfully most of it wasn't caught on film (as far as I know, knock on wood).

Here's what one local town did.

Take note in the article where they mention what they're doing in Memphis City Schools...

OK, I don't care for such attire but I think passing laws against it is ridiculous, as if municipalities aren't already working with limited resources.

As long as there is no indecent exposure going on, cities might be taking a chance with lawsuits for these legislations.

As far as why? I didn't think much about it when they were just wearing them a little low - but now you see them all the way down to the bottom of someone's butt. Even with underwear keeping them decent, it's not sexy. It is the UGLIEST fad I've ever seen yet. I understand kids wanting a style that says "different from you" to the older generations -- but why they would go so far out of their way to look either stupid or unsexy, I can't figure that one.
