Why do people create false rumours that are obviously untrue?

I just saw a sad picture of a child attached to a bunch of wires and tubes and the caption said something along the lines of "let's get 100 likes so this baby can get a free heart transplant"

To me any intelligent person would know it wasn't true immediately, yet there seem to me people that fall for these types of things every day.

Now to me the silly fake rumours like "we need a million likes or Facebook is going to start charging" are still hard to belive anyone falls for that stuff, but to use a child in need of a transplant (if that part is even true) is the work of a sick mind.

Some will say anything to get attention
Some will say anything to get what they want
Some will say anything to argue their side of a story
Some will believe anything that's said

I think there are many people on facebook/twitter/etc just looking for attention they don't get in real life. I'd say people who fall for that stuff are probably in the same group.

Dear April: I don't want any trouble from you.
January was long, February was iffy, March was a freaking dumpster fire.
So sit down, be quiet, and don't touch anything.
