New videos, sorta, kinda

I just downloaded the Open Shot video editor for Linux yesterday and got to play with it a little today.
I don't have a good video camera yet so the first two videos I did are pretty simple.
The first one is just a pic of Potty with me trying out the Hot Rod Tipper I made last July.
The second are some pics from a ride we took to Schroon Lake and Lake placid a couple of weeks ago. The song is Planxty's Queen of Rushes with me 'loudly' playing the Bodhran.

Sheesh, Thom you really do like that Celtic type music, don'tcha?...

I liked that tune from the Oct. ride.

Not all that big on the Celtic music, probably because I have been in America for so long ....but that was a good riff...helped a lot by the fancy drum...lol.

In the words of John Fogherty..keep on chooglin'.

Geez Jim I've never been out of the country, unless you count my trips to Key West
For some reason I've always liked Irish music even though I don't have an Irish bone in my body that I am aware of.
Since I got my Bodhran last Dec. I've found it to be a fascinating drum to play. The one I have now is a cheap one I picked up to try the water so to speak. I'm looking at a couple different pro models now. Both drums I'm considering are hand made and you have to contact the makers first to discuss your playing style so they can match the skin to where you live and how you play.

Nice Key West crack there brother...lol. I really have to make it there on my bucket list. I believe it was you who put the llink up about one of them trying to secede from the Union... I still get a chuckle over that one....love that kind of stuff.:p

Anyway I wasn't blowin smoke there Thom, really liked the one ditty there, your drumming on the Bodhran was the backbone of the tune...must be the 'dack effect...lol

Most all sound almost the same to me...cryin' shame probably...but like I said even though I was born there....I don't have the appreciation or better yet 'ear' for it, I should.

That was actually appreciated for the drumming.

One of these day's I hope ya put up a vid on drumming to a so called regular rock song.

Yep Key West seceded back in the early 80's (I think it was).
Thanks for the compliment on the drumming.
I need to get a cheap video camera soon.
I actually play the Bodhran to anything I can including the Bloodhound Gang and Reverend Horton Heat.
I'm still working on getting the right skins for my congas and have a couple other drums in mind to pick up. This winter I'll be concentrating on learning the tin whistle and if things go right will work on getting a group together next year. Not a traditional Irish music group, but a group who plays different music from a different point of view(< queue Jimmy Buffet reference) Here's the Reverend's song I've been practicing to which also happens to be the song I'll be basing my bike on when I rebuild it

You are pretty good on the Bodhran, Thom.

You know I love Celtic music - but it has to have a beat to it (and preferably pipes).

Nice pictures too - thanks for sharing.

      Thanks Pat.
That song features one of the best Uilleann pipes players in the world.

Yeah, I have a few of Liams YouTubes - He's good alright.

BTW, if you are checking out hand drums, check out the Indian tabla - they have some really deep sounds. I don't know why since they are smaller than congas that the sound seems 'richer' somehow - you would probably know why...

    back to work...

I have In fact they are on my long, long, want list.
I won't be happy till I've got my house filled with drums.
The next few on the list are a Cajon, Talking Drum, Djembe, and of course Shaky Eggs (yes I have a weird sense of humor).
I'll be working on learning to play my Bones this winter also, they are actually harder to play then you may think.

This is what you can get when you combine most of the drums I mentioned and tin whistle together.

Thanks Kim. I did the audio recording back in July about 6 months into playing the Bodhran.
I first started playing drums at 10 though, so I'm pretty used to hitting things
