I hate to say it, but food has been like that for probably about 70+ years! As for the meat products, etc?

First of all, people do NOT eat ribs for the ribs! They eat them for the rib MEAT. Many products DO have the other parts of the pig! I kind of like denmark, so I looked into some foods there, and scottland and ireland. HECK, even great britain! Parts of the US? Do you know what HOTDOGS used to be made of, and SOME STILL ARE? And people only mentioned the red dye #2!?!?!?!?

How about how some areas process HAM? YIKES!

Yeah, I HATE all that. I want to eat only CERTAIN kinds of meat. Basically, I just like the MUSCLE! But that leaves a LOT of "meat" that OTHERS LOVE! The parts I like rarely cost more than say $20/lb! Some of the rest can go WELL into the hundreds! Of course SOME, especially on more popular animals, can go for pennies, and ends up even being fed to people like ME. 8-(

I used to LOVE braunschweiger! I used to LOVE sausage. 8-(

I've never had a McRib. The prospects that I'd buy one are slim and none. Home cooking is hard enough when dealing with supermarket chicken that's already had all kinds of stuff put in it to "enhance" flavor. I'm a capable cook, honest. I don't want all the crap enhanced stuff, so we always buy food as plain as possible...then I can add my own choice of spices or flavor enhancement to it.

Sometimes we stop to get sundaes at McD's -- maybe we'd quit those, too, if we knew what was actually in it.

Sundaes USED to be made with ice CREAM! But because of cost, shelf life, etc... MANY cut down on the cream and use thickening agents and sweetners and flavors and may even throw in preservatives. YIKES!

  I haven't eaten at a McDonald's in seven years. Any joint that can charge $2-4 for a "hamburger" or "rib sandwich", soda, and fries and still turn a profit makes me wonder what the hell I'm eating.

I refuse to read what it is really made of, as I love the McRib. My friend told me "that is disgusting" and I told him it tastes like Jesus's Poop, and never to speak ill of it again.

I worry more about that crap in the buns than the meat. What the hell ever happened to flour? Flour yeast and water isn't cheap enough to make buns out of? Especially that flour that comes out of China that has that styrofaom-like crap ground up in it to create weight and bulk and save them money on actually selling wheat flour to people. Then they can wonder why so many people are now allergic to wheat gluten. How would they even know?

You would think that the US would BAN any food to/from china! Until the 90s, they DID ban advanced technology. It is SICK how this has gone!

A bit over a year ago(IIRC) they found that china was lacing PET protein with POISONS usually used to make plastic, to make it look like it had more of the more expensive protein. A few months later, consumer reports checked out several HUMAN proteins for toxins. If THEY had the high content of the item the pet food did, people would be dying left and right after getting sick, etc... So NOPE, CR did NOT find those. They DID find lead, nickle, cadmium, etc.... in MOST of the products.

One person I talked to, that seemed to know what he was talking about, said that it was because of the whey concentrates. The isolate process filters that stuff out, so THEY don't have the problem.

We don't know if this is because of careless use of machinery in China, careless maintenance, or careless handling or storage, but it is a BIG problem. It could lead to all kinds of problems, including brain damage in infants on formula.

I never heard about this is US products(Stuff 100% from the US)! Apparently australia is good! I never heard about it in europe EITHER. But in china? YEP! Alas, THEY are CHEAP!

Nice, I think i might just head over and get one now...

I actually get a kick when you go through the drive thru and they have this girl/guy saying "Welcome to mcdonalds... would you like a mcrib sandwich today? " and then it gets followed soon after by another voice saying "Hi this is angel what would you like to order" ... always gets me. i'm like whoa i actually thought the first person was you!

I think Mcdonalds really goes far in the marketing department though when I see clever things like that. They don't even have to train their employees! they just run the pre-recorded tape. pretty Mcmazing

I never go to McDonalds as I cannot see a single good reason to do so.
What amazes me is how they are so popular in the US - a country where you can get a genuinely great burger for a very reasonable price in countless diners the length and breadth of the country.
I speak as a tourist of course but it does baffle me.

Very true. I still enjoy hamburgers and rib sandwiches just not at McDonald's.

Their popularity is in price. If I order a 1/3 pound cheese burger with fries, and coke at Burgermeister it comes out to around $9.

You can get a big mac, fries, and a coke for for around $4 (I haven't been to McDonald's in years but don't think it's gone up in price).

I'm glad to pay $5 more to a real burger vs. processed meat but a lot people do not want to pay more or they can't afford it.

That's why during economic bad times like now cheap fast food joints like McDonald's do very well.

They're also fast since their food is sitting under warming lights vs. the other real burger joints, they actually have to cook your burger so you have to wait around 10 minutes. Gasp.
