Mr. Defensive Coordinator...

It's the Super Bowl...

3:30 Remain in regulation...

You're up by 7 points...

The enemy has the ball on their own 40...

It's 3rd and 18...

What defense would you employ?

Look for a draw or screen?

If you do this your pass rush will be missing at least on man.

Mr. Blitzmiester:

Everything but the kitchen sink:

Would you all out blitz (8 men) with press coverage?

Would you all out blitz with soft coverage - 3Deep?

( it's not a blitz unless you rush at least 5 )

Would you blitz 5 with man?

Would you blitz 6 with man?

Would you blitz 7 with man?

Zones:

Would you play soft man with deep drops by your LB's

Would you sit on all short passes with 2Deep Safeties?

Would you play 3Deep with 4 underneath with deep drops?

Tampa2:

4 Rush:

2Deep, MLB covers 10-25 yards up the middle, 4 in underneath coverage.

Play Coverage:

3 Rush - 5 underneath & 3 deep.

3 Rush - 4 underneath & 4 deep.

Remember...

It's the Super Bowl...

3:30 Remain in regulation...

You're up by 7 points...

The enemy has the ball on their own 40...

It's 3rd and 18...

What would you do, mister defensive coordinator?

Depending on what has been called in the game before and the personel/formation expected on O, I'd probably go Tampa 2 with a 4 man rush, simply because most teams in this situation either get too agressive or too passive. I'd probably just play it like any other passing down and trust my players to make a play.

Yea, the Tampa 2 looks like a pretty safe bet especially if your MLB can get deep fast to look out for anything in the middle of the field in the 10-30 yard range.

If not, there will be a big hole in that middle as your safeties will really split.

Hopefully you can pressure the QB with your 4 man rush.

Percentages are quite low for a competed pass for the 1st down.

Also, with 3:30 remaining If I was on offense, I'd might be in 4 down territory.

I'd look to go with max protection and only 3 wide receivers with 2 of them running medium range patterns, 1 going deep and also with a RB, pass blocking...

... and then looking for a last minute dump off in hopes of getting 5-10 yards to setup a better 4th down situation for my offense.

Unless my punter is deadly accurate on putting the ball inside the 10, this would probably be my last possession of the game - come hell or high water.

If my 3rd down pass falls incomplete, I rather punt the ball away on 4th and 18 than go for it and not make it.

Depending on my time out situation and my defense, I might get the ball back near mid-field with about 1:30 remaining.

That might be good for 6 pass plays to go 50/60 yards for the catch up TD.

      All The Best!!

Too much missing information! It depends on the strengths and weaknesses of each team. Injuries. What has worked and not worked up to that point. Tendencies of the other team from past games in similar situations. Has your defense been on the field most of the second half and are gassed; or has your offense being playing keep away well enough that the defense is rested? Are they a better passing team or running team? Teams don't always pass in obvious passing situations, especially if the run defense is weak. What defense did we practice for this situation?

Having said that, I'd probably try to keep everything in front of the defense, unless I've got a blitz I haven't used that I was saving for a situation like this.

Just when you think you've got it all figured out, someone changes the rules.

You're just clueless. It's called respect.

For someone that always tells us how good John Lennon was, you don't have a clue about what he was about.

But you won. The thread is all your's now. You got your attention. Hopefully you'll grow up some day and add a little "smart" to your smart ass comments.
