    Paul,

Are you a writer for the New York Times using the pen name of Steven Pinker?

Reading that article sure made me feel like I was steadily reading one of your posts. Or should that be "was reading steadily"?

      ptone,

Nope. Not me. I did, however, experience a rather loud mental "You go, boy!" for Mr Pinker.

This is going to be great fodder for the conspiracy theorists, too. The second time he took the oath (stated correctly), he didn't use a Bible. How long do you think it will be before someone says he's not officially the President?

All because (probably) of the instincts of the Chief Grammar Cop...

And all the Mr. and Mrs. Wombats out there are reading that article, nodding, because they too noticed the word "faithfully" was in the wrong place in the Constitution version of the oath. And nodding because they too had noticed that Dolly Parton's song sounded like a screeching barn owl because of that split verb. And then they were horrified to find similar "errors" in the NYT article itself... and they came away without a clue as the theme and purpose of that article.

    Cheers,
    Becky

My insider resources have told me that Mr. Pinker's other name is someone called "Misato".

....it's the third time a president has had to retake the oath due to a small error in wording.

Was it necessary? Probably not - but would stop conspiracy bloggers. I think the "oath" is the requirement, not the Bible.

I missed all the flak - don't like crowds and don't like watching crowds so did some reading and a lot of working and no TV past couple of days.

    Interesting detail:

Nixon "affirmed" I believe. He was of Quaker origins and Quakers
don't swear. My family is Quaker, that's why I know.
