The Rebirth of the Funk sound?

This lady and her band sounds like they did a pretty good job of recapturing the old classics sounds and vocal styles.

I did not know about a "Revivalist" niche in music , but this sounds like good stuff if they can arrange music the old way, which turned into classics:

From Wikipedia: "They are spearheads of a revivalist movement that aims to capture the essence of funk/soul music as it was at its height in the mid-1960s to mid-1970s. Part of the way this is achieved is to shun modern digital recording methods in favour of using traditional analogue recording equipment. The type of instruments used by the band may also be considered limited to those that would have been available up until the mid-'70s."

Yeah, more "Revivalist" for Rock, Blues, Rock n Roll, Funk, R&B, Jazz, Movie and T.V. themes.

Think I'm going to have to look into MORE revivalist stuff, rekindle my interest in music, I would also like to hear "revivalist" sounds of theatrical music like Mission Impossible, music score from Steve McQueens "Bullet", the theme from Magnum Force or t.v. show jazz/swing like Mannix, for starters. Then some Rock, etc.,.

The music in the last 25 years or so is crap, maybe one song in what, 150 or 200 might be considered a classic , I don't know.

Looks like you got to go blues, jazz, classical , to find gems, Rock, Pop and R&B have been hijacked.

You got to do detective research to find good stuff nowadays, I think.

With revivalist type of methodology, I think you REALLY have to be good, have talent, because there is no digital trickery or other technological masks to cover up weak performances.

Amazing how you take even the smallest stuff for granted, then realize, years later, it was a classic that can probably never be reproduced again or talent that will be a long time coming, if ever.

Oh, what the hell:

IMHO The Funk & the Soul need to be separated because they are two totally different types of sound.

The soul sound to me is characterized by good soulful singing like the Spinners while the Funk to me is typified by groups like...

    - Early Kool & The Gang, folks like the Ohio Players, Cameo, War, Mandrill and of course Parliament-Funkadelic - whom I've seen at least 20 times.

    BTW...

The Ohio Players would create their music first and then decide on a theme and lyrics for their songs.

Most of these Funk bands had at least 10 members playing horny horns, ghostly keyboards, a bass player, two or three guitars and maybe even two drummers.

IMHO, this is the way Hendrix was moving just before his untimely death.

    BTW...

    Jimi would have been proud...
