Hey, I'm a HOMELESS 18 Year Old Trying to make money on the internet. I can't post my entire story cause of that stupid blocker thing, but I posted my story on BHW if any of you visit there. In case you're wondering how I'm on here, I have a laptop by sheer coincidence and am using the free wi-fi via a local library near the shelter I stay at.

Am currently looking for any advice/help I can get. If you want my full story, you can send me a message.

Thanks

How I ended up Homeless is simple. I just didn't have any way to take care of myself, as my mother's meager income simply wasn't enough. She's got well over $11,000 in her job's stocks, but would never do anything with it to ensure her financial security, she's a ****ing idiot. Because of her stupidity and failure to ACT, I have suffered a brutal cycle of homelessness and poverty all throughout my childhood. She had enough pep in her step to go to the local Public Aid Office, but can't get off her ass, get an apartment, and get her **** together. So that being said, I'm all alone in this.

IM is a long term commitment, there are no shortcuts.
I think your #1 goal should be to find work.
If you have not finished school that's #2, without at least a high school diploma life becomes twice as hard.

I have relatives, but NO family. You should get it. Work is almost non-existent for people in my situation out here in Chicago, P.H.D.'s are competing with High School Kids for gigs at McDonalds, it's insane out here.

If things are that bad in the windy city, get out of there. I would try and find a job anywhere, as long as you have a job, you will have a roof over your head. Ever thought about Canada? They are always looking for people. Try Flynn Roofing (biggest in Canada) or Christensen & McLean Roofing, they are always looking for guys. They provide appartments as well. I was over there for almost 3 years working as a carpenter and was well looked after. Just a thought. You have to get a job buddy and get off the ****ing streets asap. any ****ing job. That should be your #1 priority right now, not internet riches. Wish you the best of luck dude.

I stay at a Homeless Shelter, so how exactly am I supposed to afford transportation to Canada, as well as a passport, and who's to say I'll even get hired?

Life's a bitch. Now is not the time to put more stumbling blocks in your way, now is the time to fight like your life depends on it (which it does!)

Call every goddamn company in the States then. Get a start somewhere, doesn't have to be Chicago. Work your ass off, make a good impression. Get that first paycheque and you will feel like a Million dollars. Where there's a will, there's a way bro. Get a laborers job on a building site or something. You can do it man. After you are settled somewhat and have some money, you can concentrate on you internet ventures.

Walk door to door and sell someone on a webdesign job for 3 or $400, put some cash in your pocket... go back the next day and do it again. You will make money faster than a job, what with the way they hold checks back for two weeks or a month... You have a roof over your head. Nothin better to do than to bust a new move.

Ps. finding a web design gig is about the same amount of effort as finding a job, but you get paid the same day you find it.

Let me suggest the OP'er add postings to Craigslist and the like. If he can build websites he can do it anywhere.

If what you're saying is true, internet marketing is the last thing you should be trying to get in to right now.

Like others said, you need a job.

Before I started doing IM, I spent over a year as a temp worker before the company I was positioned at hired me on.

Check out the local temp agencies, I'm sure they can help you find something. It might not be what you want, but I'm pretty sure being in a shelter isnt what you want either.

Take any job you can get, then stick it out at the shelter for as long as you have to, and keep saving each paycheck you get. Individually they might be small, but they add up.

Once you have saved enough cash, buy a cheap used car for transportation. Doesn't matter what it looks like, just as long as it gets you from point A to point B and then back to point A again lol

In the mean time, go apply for section 8 housing/food stamps/welfare or whatever you need to do in order to survive.

There are plenty of programs that help people, just have to find them. And at times, you have to swallow your pride and seek assistance.

But at least you have the shelter to fall back on until things start looking up. I know it probably doesn't seem like it right now, but it could be a lot worse.

Just dont give up man. I wish you the best of luck, I hope everything works out for you.

And dont bash your mom like that dude. Thats not cool. Maybe she just needs some help..

I learned about some resources there and would be happy to help all that I can. Feel free to get in touch with me with any questions.

Temp Agencies are NOT people like me, the ones here in Chicago, which is almost at 4,000,000 people now, are 90% run by and FOR Latinos, they especially cater to them, hence why they can be illegal, and walk right in and steal a job from someone qualified. I've been to these places, so I know. Those jobs that are within city limits all require some form of higher education, experience, as well as a Valid Drivers License of some form, and/or a car.

I'm pretty sure none of you here have been homeless or known what it's like to be denied of a job because of how you look or the color of your skin, while someone else equal to or worse off than you of a lighter skin tone is given the position. It's even hard to get an apartment out here, and that's even if you HAVE the money! Racism, personal bias, and Cliques are all very prevalent in Chicago, which is why I'm leaving here for good at the first opportunity. Landlords would rather let in someone of their own kind who has no ability to pay, than someone who's different who CAN pay, bias at the expense of the Owner, and then to save their own ass, they do whatever it takes to cover it up, assuming the Owner isn't in on it too, or just doesn't notice the missing money. Public Services are even corrupt here, the YEARS long waiting list for Section 8 can be "bypassed" just for knowing somebody behind one of the offices reception desks. It takes being Homeless to understand someone who is. I'll stop there.

As for Welfare, as dehumanizing and demeaning it is, there's waiting list for that **** out here. LONG ones. I've applied already, but it's a process, and it's only to get a Link Card(Food Stamps in card form since people decades ago kept selling them for cash on the streets), which only takes care of food, which I really don't have to worry about. As for Cash Welfare, there's a lot of red tape, thanks to "undesirables" scamming the system, put it that way.

And don't bash my mom that way? You don't know the HALF of it. It's HER ****ing fault I'm in this situation, she's not even TRYING. Her CHOICE to refuse to take ACTION is the main reason why I've suffered all my life. I'm the one that's been with her, struggling all 18 years of my life. She's the kind of person who will be told EXACTLY how to achieve a better life for herself, and do NOTHING, yes, this has actually happened. She simply gave up years ago, doesn't give a ****, and is waiting on her Food Stamps to come in like all the rest of the have nots without any goals, living in a ****hole like the shelter I'm in is NOT my end, that is all......

Jobs may be hard to find, but they are there! A bunch of my friends just moved there because there were some job openings at Best Buy with less competition than the ones here in Washington. Especially with the holidays, retail places are hiring like crazy! Besides, places like McDonalds would rather hire a teen than someone with a college degree just because they expect less pay.

Get a job, try and get things turned around, THEN look into IM.

If you are really in a bind, i.e. can't get any food, shoot me a PM or email and maybe I can hook you up with one of my buddies for a pizza or something.

No offence and of course I don't know your situation properly but you cannot solely lay the blame upon your mother. You still have a choice in your life no matter what your mum does. My father had no help from his parents and he was amongst 5 siblings and lived in what could only be described as poverty in one of the worst areas in Glasgow. He left school when he was 16 without any qualifications but without the help of anyone around him he made a success of himself.

Now I am not saying that happens for everyone but I think you should try and think optimisitcally as hard as that may be right now and I empathise with your situation. A negative outlook will only result in a negative outcome. Start small with any job you can get and work your way up.

Just my 2 cents and I hope your situation turns for the better as soon as possible.

    Good luck,

    Craig

PS, give me a PM if you like I may be able to help you out in some way along the line.

    Well then.

After your reply, I'm done here... Its not possible that ANY of us on here have ever been homeless before. SURE. lmfao

Try over-paying your landlord 800 dollars, having ALL the receipts to prove you are paid up for the next 2 months, and STILL being evicted "because the judge wasn't too good with numbers, and isn't going to get in to the stack of rent receipts"

As for being denied a job because of race, YES I have.

I was working as a temp for a company, and so was another guy. I'm white, he is African American.

I always showed up early. Never came back late from lunch. Always did what I had to do to get the job done RIGHT the first time.

But because of the affirmative action law, they hired him - a lazy idiot who NEVER came to work on time, took 30 minutes extra on lunch breaks, drove company trucks to "see his baby mama", came in to work high as a kite, the list just goes on & on....

I was clearly the better candidate for the position.

But WHY didn't I get it?

The person they fired was African American, so they had to hire an African American.

And keep in mind, this is the exact words of the foreman when I asked if I was going to get the full-time position.

It didn't matter that he just screwed off all day. They hired him anyway, because he was the only African American who applied for the job. Oh - and then 2 weeks later I ran into the guy at the store, and asked how he liked the full-time position. He said "Oh, I quit that job.."

And I'm not saying this because of race. I'm saying it because its true. I have NOTHING against African Americans, hispanics, asians, etc.. Ethnicity means absolutely nothing to me.

    We all bleed the same.

So I'll leave it with this - You aren't the only one with problems buddy.

But you ARE the only one who can change them.

And I dont give a damn what your mother has put you through. She is still your mom.

That is NOT cool to come on here and just bash the hell out of her like that.

But whatever man.. I tried to give you some advice, but you wanted to come back and yell about it, saying how nobody understands, blah blah blah... cry me a river.

I'm done here. Good luck in life dude. I really hope you can change your attitude.

Dude, respect is something that should be EARNED. It should be a PRIVILEGE. And yes, I have said such things directly to her, which she knows to be true, now stay out of it. That's like respecting say, your brother, despite he turned his back on you and ****ed you over out of the job of your lifetime, DELIBERATELY. You have no right to tell me what I'm WRONG for saying. Yeah, love somebody who never tried, please. You don't know what has happened behind the scenes, and I personally don't give a **** about your opinion of me, you can call me a crying kid all the **** you want, and judge me like so many other people have, just because you're in a better situation than me doesn't make you a better person than me.

YOU are NOT me, meaning you can't come on here like you're all high and mighty and **** and pull rank, but whatever as if you know that my mother tried her hardest to provide a good life for herself and me which she DIDN'T, I'm not stooping down to your level, I'll always hate my so called relatives, my mother included, and you'll never change that. The day I get my **** together and climb to the top, then we'll see..........

First, don't make assumptions about others. When I was 19, I was homeless in Chicago. It's tough and you're in a tough spot.

You can make a little money as a writer online. But you need a Paypal account. Do you have a Paypal account? If you don't, make it your number 1 priority. I know, you don't have ID, so you can't open a bank account. But you're homeless, so you don't have anything better to do. So go Downtown, and go bank to bank and ask for a manager. Tell them your situation and you need to somehow open a bank account. Ask them what you need for ID. See if they can work something out...They may hire to to wash windows so you can get money for an ID.

Every day, put an ad on Craigslist saying: "Homeless 18 year old. Needs help. Will do odd jobs. Honest, hard working and reliable. Just needs a chance."

Once you can get an ID to open a bank account, then open a Paypal account, here's a number of writing opportunities.

    https://sites.google.com/site/newentrepreneurcuresite/employment-opportunities/time-tracker

Also, check Craigslist for jobs that offer "room and board" across the country.

Craigslist is free...Be creative and use it. Find out when there's storage auctions in your area. Go hang out at them. There will be people buying storage bins, looking for valuable items. Most of the stuff they will end up taking to the dump. Offer to help them.

You're in a tough spot, no doubt. It will take you time to dig your way out. I'm speaking from experience. But everyday you have to do something.

Here, I know I said I was done here but I have something to add to Kurt's post.

You dont NEED a bank account to verify a PayPal account.

If you can come up with 25 dollars, go to Walmart and buy a Walmart Money Card.

Its 20 dollars minimum to load on to the prepaid card. Plus the rest for fees.

Activate the card, then create an online account. This lets you see your transaction history (you need this when waiting for PayPal deposits)

Once activated, they give you your checking account number and routing number for the prepaid card INSTANTLY.

So there ya go, use that to verify your bank account in PayPal, wait 3-5 days until they deposit two small amounts on the card, just check your card balance each day and wait for those 2 small deposits.

Then just go on to your PayPal account, click verify bank account and enter those 2 amounts.

Your PayPal is now verified and you can start receiving payments for work you do online. Since your bank account is verified (and assuming you have decent credit) you can also now apply for the PayPal debit card, which lets you go to any ATM and instantly withdraw your money from PayPal.

Until then, you just withdraw your money from PayPal on to the prepaid Walmart card. This takes 3-5 days.

Plus you can use the temporary card to purchase things you need like food, etc.

Just make sure you keep at least 1 dollar on there, so the card is active and PayPal can make their deposits.

But either way, dont assume people "have no idea what its like" and have never been in a bad position before. Because trust me kid, YOU have no idea what its like. LOL you're still a child. I'm not saying this in a bad way or trying to insult you either.. I just call it how I see it.

The way I see it, you wouldn't be going through it if you weren't strong enough to handle it.

I am terribly sorry you are in this situation. I just checked the craigslist ads for jobs. I do not know what your experience is, but you can check out the site to see if there is anything you can do.

Internet marketing can be very profitable but you might want to consider getting a regular job until you can save some money. I think there are many people, myself included, who did whatever it took to make money (legally). A day laborer might not be a great job, but it will put money in your pocket.

You can also turn to local churches. Ask for help.

There is some good advice on this thread. I wish you the best of luck.

    Hey Ashj,

My story doesn't compare to yours when it comes to homeless shelters, but I have lived on the streets here and there throughout my life.

    In 2008 I slept in a car that I bought for $200.

So I know how it feels and I'm sorry for your situation.

But remember, even though we want to blame others on our misfortune, we hold our own destinies in our hands and it's very possible for you to make a living online.

You hold the power to push for a brighter future and I can see you doing it if you stay focused.

My suggestion to you would be to post gigs on Fiverr. It might not seem like a lot of money, but it is profitable and you can do tedious short tasks for $4 a piece (Fiverr takes $1 out of your sales).

In a very short period I made over $500 there, but due to my other projects it was worth it anymore, but for someone in your situation or how I began, it's amazing and you could do really well there.

Here are a few tips though.

Don't spend money online if you don't have it. There are no get rich quick methods unless you have the right knowledge first.

Don't scam others. Many people think they aren't scamming others, when in fact they are. If you don't have first hand experience with something or know someone who does, don't try to give others advice on it.

I own websites dedicated to all types of products, but I have some prior knowledge or know of friends/family whom have knowledge of the products that I promote.

And finally, be realistic, but ignore the real world.

That might sound weird, but real world tactics don't work the same on the internet. Not to say they won't work at all, it's just that the internet is a unique place, so take into consideration the things you enjoy online and look deeper into them

Hope these tips help and I hope for the best.

I didn't say you had to love her, OR respect her. Hell, I didn't even say you had to LIKE her.

All I'm saying, (and I'm sure plenty of other users here will agree with me) is that there is absolutely no reason for you to be posting about how much you hate her, how much of a POS she is, etc. on a public forum.

You think that is going to get you some "respect" on here? I doubt it..

PS: I never said I was "better than you" - Not once.

Take a few moments to read my posts and you might realize that.

Also, I think you missed my previous post. I added on to what Kurt suggested, explaining how to verify a PayPal account if you don't have a bank account.

Obviously I'm trying to help you here. There is no need for your attitude.

"I'm pretty sure none of you here have been homeless or known what it's like to be denied of a job because of how you look or the color of your skin, while someone else equal to or worse off than you of a lighter skin tone is given the position. "

I'm pretty sure you are wrong.
