I don't like telling people that I am a IMer.

No, I am not ashamed of it but it seems most people don't even understand it and when I do respond, they ask one question, and that leads to another and another and another,etc.......or they downplay what I do like it's not important or it's some low paying gig. Little do they know.

I just tell people I am a webmaster, thinking that'll keep things(them) moving. Nope, that doesn't work neither.


What do you tell people when that ask you what do you do?

    I say, "You know how you search stuff in Google? I help people show up for those things that you search." Doesn't help as far as people asking questions, though. If I don't want to have the conversation, I just tell them that I am a drug dealer. Ends the convo pretty quick. LOL

      I just tell them I run a business. If they ask what kind I just tell them I build websites. Most of the time they don't get to much involved I guess they "think" there is a lot too it, maybe, and they don't want to get into it.

      But my family used too ask me questions all the time, but once I start telling them about ALL the stuff thats involved they normally just get overwhelmed and don't want to talk about it anymore. So now they just ask me "Hows business?" I say good and that's that.....Oh they also ask me for money and when I'm gonna be rich so they don't have to work!

    I tell people what I do.

    Then if they don't like what I have to say, I tell them to shove it otherwise I'll buy their house just to foreclose on them.

    I just tell people I work online. Pretty broad, covers everything

    I tell them I'm an entrepreneur, and then I ask if they can spell that.

    When they say they can't, I say, "then we having nothing further to talk about."

    Just kidding! Usually I just say I'm a writer. Everybody gets that and you get mucho respect. Otherwise, depending on the situation, I'll say I'm a publisher, entrepreneur, web designer, researcher, or software developer -- all of which are true.

    Some people are "gunslingers" whose default mode is to shoot down anything you say or do. They're like the fastest gun in the West, instantly applying what little information they've got to shoot off something ignorant and putrid from their mouths.

        "I build Websites."

        I enjoy telling people what I do. Although I have 3 ventures in the wonderful world of Internet marketing, "I build Websites" is my standard reply. It usually brings a smiling "ahh" response.

    I usually just say that I am a writer as well. I still get lots of questions like "how do you get paid for that?" Some people assume that I don't work because they don't see my leave the house the physically go to work. The closest thing to "going" to work for me is packing up the laptop and notebooks and heading to my favorite coffee house or Panera's! What a life!
