I ran into an article on pop can furnaces yesterday and decided to search out more information (just Google "pop can furnace" or "soda can furnace".)

It was quite interesting and it sure would be nice to have an alternative to the expensive energy provider in my area. Unfortunately, it doesn't seem that any large companies are working on this from my cursory search, so I doubt we'll get to use it anytime soon. Besides, my home is brick and it won't look good with these big boxes installed on the side -- not to mention having to break through the brick to get the heat to come in.

This might be something to keep an eye open to see if any builders -- okay, when there is no longer a housing glut and construction starts again some day -- offer ways to incorporate these into the outside design of the house so they don't look so....look soooo...liable to get you thrown out of the homeowner's association and fined, or look so ghastly on the side of the house.

So far, these only work when the sun is shining; you won't be able to be rid of a conventional furnace. This looks like a good start to something that is new (or at least new to me) and could eventually be monetized with kits and instructions.

Here's the Big G search: https://www.google.com/#sclient=psy-...w=1600&bih=631

Don't blame me if you spend a lot of time looking at this:rolleyes:
