Thanks,
Shakul

    Hello Shakul,

Welcome to the Warrior Forum - come back often and make good use of the information here!

I personally use my laptop (I no longer have a desktop), as I find the laptop to be more conducive to the amount of space I have and the amount of peripherals I have (printer, scanner, external mouse, USB 2.0 hub, along with the occasional flash drive and external hard drive). I've been used to a laptop really since I came home from college to work on homework and projects (leaving my desktop in my dorm room to work on there) - after I gave my desktop to my half-brother, I just stuck with my laptop.

To this point, my laptop's RAM (currently 1GB) and hard drive space (100GB) have been enough for my needs. I know desktops encompass more of both, but I like the laptop's versatility of being able to "take-it-on-the-go." Plus, I can access my files, work with graphics and multimedia, and utilize programs, such as Microsoft Office, FTP programs, HTML editors, and anti-malware programs just fine on my current laptop.

Chances are, when I need to upgrade my computer, it's likely I'll get another laptop. I have considered perhaps investing in both a laptop and a (relatively cheap) desktop at some point if I do more travelling, just to have a "home base" of operations and to not put as much wear on my laptop, but at this point, the laptop suits my IM work just fine.

Take care and have a great weekend!

    Sincerely,

    Joe Chengery III

    Hello PettyL111,

I'd suggest doing some research online in deciding what laptop you want to purchase. I believe there is at least one thread or two in this forum (or perhaps the "old" Warrior Forum, available at The Warrior Forum) that could prove useful for you in deciding what laptop to get - I know I posted some helpful information in at least one of those threads. Enter keywords such as "Purchasing new laptop" or "What to look for in purchasing new laptop" to help you find those threads.

I hope this proves helpful - good luck in deciding what laptop to get.

Take care and have a great weekend!

    Sincerely,

    Joe Chengery III

If you can, especially if you will be visiting people to show what you do, have both.

I have two PCs and a lap top in a home network so that I can move programmes and files around among them. The lap top does not get used that much but if I am asked to visit a group and show a specific project or piece of software, I am always able to do so.

For general composition, I find the flexibility and speed of the PCs far superior and much prefer the keyboard layout and instant access buttons.

All I have is a laptop so that's all I can use.

I really 'need' to get a gaming desktop sometime as games 3 years and newer don't work on my laptop at all.

I use a laptop formy work and when it uhmm fails, I go to the desktop. But I much prefer the laptop since I could go from room to room in thouse or even outside without worrying about cables and Internet.

A very powerful laptop does the trick for me, even just plugging in a large screen, mouse and keyboard gives it a desktop feel if your that way inclined. Then you can easily pick it up if your on the go. Great For work and play.

I use a "laptop"... I say that in quotes because it's a 17 inch beast! I decided that I wanted a laptop, but that I also wanted maximum screen space. So, I got the 17" with 1920 X 1200 screen resolution. It kicks ass. Luckily I don't have to cart it around all that often.

Nothing more comfortable than being in a cozy bed with a laptop most of you will agree with me. And as an all-time-at-home designer, laptop is the best choice for me, though I have a desktop but haven't touched it for ages..

I use a laptop. Desktops are just too big even though I have a large office.

I travel a lot on business and am thinking about buying a netbook as I find the restrictions on hand baggage very annoying. I can take my laptop or a carry-one case but not both.

    Anyone any views on netbooks?

Good question, i use a labtop which is basicaly about as big as my computer, with a cordless mouse and a keyboard which is probably bigger to work. When at home i use my computer, and now i don't know which one i prefer..

Hmmm, i think it's defintly got to be the comfort of your own home with your own computer that wins... =P

looks like you guys are mainly laptop users! any brand in particular - im a big fan of Dell and have a Dell XPS and just got one of those Dell Mini's, it super cool, and am tending to cart that along with me more and more now, for less important meetings, and heading out for dinner/coffee etc

although it would be very difficult for me to ditch my desktop, have way too much stuff on it and the extra power does come in handly when im photoshopping, coding, outlook, excel, acrobat, etc, etc not to mention about 10 browser windows open too!!!
