Will Office 2007 work on 64-bit Vista or not? What to do?
At some point in the not-too-distant future, I likely will get a new computer (probably a laptop), and of course, it will very likely be a 64-bit Vista, as I'm not sure Windows 7 (the next operating system after Vista) will be ready or have most of the "bugs" worked out by the time I'm ready or will need to be ready to get my next computer.
Doing some research, I've heard some conflicting reports about 64-bit Vista not being able to handle Office 2007. My current laptop has XP and Office 2000 (seen no need to upgrade from 2000 to 2003), and from what I have researched, Office 2000 will not work on 64-bit Vista (it MIGHT work on 32-bit Vista, but it's likely that OS will not be around by the time I get my next computer, probably either in 2009 or 2010).
Therefore, I'll need to obtain some word processing & more software in order to write and edit articles and reports as I do now. However, I don't know what would be the best course of action for me when the time comes. I've looked on eBay and seen some better prices for Office 2007 than at retail stores (provided, of course, that those copies of Office 2007 are genuine - any suggestions to make sure they are genuine?), but if Office 2007 doesn't work that well, or at all, on Vista 64-bit, then I'm not sure it makes any sense to purchase Office 2007 now in anticipation of when I get my next computer that has 64-bit Vista on it.
Therefore, I'd appreciate any suggestions on what would be the best course of action for putting new word processing & more software on the new computer I'll likely purchase in the near future.
Additionally, I've heard confusing reports on the "Upgrade" version of Office 2007 Standard - supposedly, a version of MS Office from 2000 to 2007 (I have MS Office 2000 on my current laptop) has to be installed in order for the Upgrade to be recognized and installed? What if you want to put that Upgrade version of Office 2007 on a new laptop that has Vista 64-bit? Do you need to install Office 2000 first on it in order for the Upgrade to take effect, will the MS Works package that is installed with the new laptop be enough for the Upgrade to take effect, or will the Upgrade package not work at all if I wanted to put Office 2007 on a new laptop that does not have my Office 2000 software on it?
Again, I'd appreciate any suggestions on this situation as well, as this information will come in handy when I do purchase a new laptop, which I suspect will happen before too long - I always like to be prepared and learn as much as I can before I purchase something, especially if the cost is sizable (such as buying Microsoft software and/or buying a new computer).
