The Truth About Tim Tebow

I want to make something perfectly clear right off the bat. I am NOT a Denver Bronco's fan. I'm a New York Giants diehard. I live and die for the Giants.

I'm also a Tim Tebow fan. No, not because of the way he passes the football - we all know he can't throw it a lick. I'm a Tim Tebow fan because of the type of person he is. And while you can question his throwing ability, you can't question his character - the type of man he is.

Tim Tebow is a good person. Truth be told, they really don't come any better. He's the type of person NFL fans should be proud of. He's not an egomaniac or a diva, and he's an excellent ambassador for the NFL, on and off the field.

The other day he was being interviewed, and they asked him about his recent success as the Bronco's starting quarterback. Tebow did what he always does. He gave credit to his teammates. He said he's been blessed to play with great players - players that make him look better than he really is.

Yes, he actually said that. He gave all the credit for his success to his teammates. But that's the kind of person Tim Tebow is - the type of person he's always been. He puts others first.

So why all the hatred towards this man? What has he ever done to make people hate him so much? Okay, he's over-hyped. But don't blame that on him, blame it on the media. Tim Tebow has never hyped himself up - not once.

Think about it. When have you ever heard Tebow say he was the greatest this or the greatest that? You never have and you never will because Tim Tebow doesn't talk that way. More importantly, he doesn't think that way. He's humble to a fault. It's always about his teammates. It's always about giving credit to others. So, again I ask, why all the hatred towards this man?

Well, I'm here to give Tim Tebow some much deserved love. I'm here to give him his props. Do you want to know what Tebow does better than just about anyone else? He wins. He may not always look pretty doing it, but he finds a way to win. He did it in high school, he did it in college and now, after finally being given an opportunity, he's winning in the NFL.

So, if you're one of those people who don't like Tim Tebow and are rooting for him to fail, have you ever asked yourself why?

I don't know anyone that hates him. I don't know anyone that even talks about him. He's never in the news around here. Maybe it's a "big city" thing?

What do they hate about him? The only thing that comes to mind that some people might not like is his Christianty. Seems to be a growing intolerance toward Christians in the media.

I guess you don't watch SportsCenter, or visit sites like The Sporting News or SI.com. I can assure you, Tebow is very much in the news and gets hated on regularly.

Nope, ESPN lost me years ago when the collective ego outgrew the value they delivered. I'll watch a live game, but that's about it.

The only sports sites I visit are the ones for the teams I follow.

You sound defensive. I wasn't doubting you, that's why I asked what they hate about him . . . which you didn't answer.

Not defensive, just surprised by your response. But you explained you don't watch national sports, so that explains why you don't know what I'm talking about.

There doesn't seem to be a single reason why Tebow is so polarizing. The players (other than his teammates) don't like him because they think he's overrated. And I suspect there's some jealousy involved because his jersey is the #1 selling jersey in the NFL.

I also suspect there may be some racial animous involved on the part of some of the players. The media built him up and now are tearing him down because he can't pass - though they've always known that. The media definitely has a love-hate thing going on with Tebow.

He's 3-1 as a starter, but the media is focusing on the fact, he only completed 2 0f 8 passes in his last game.

Yeah, I don't understand the Tebow haters either. Jealously, maybe?

I thought Tim was one of the most exciting college players to watch in recent years (and that's saying a LOT, coming from a long-time FSU fan ). And I think he's going to be a real force to be reckoned with in the pros in coming years. True class act... both on and off the field.

I'm not ready to go quite that far yet. He really has to improve on his passing significantly. I like Tebow, but as a pocket-passer he's a joke. He won't last as strictly a running quarterback. He's already taking way too many hits. Defensive players are going after him like he's a running back, like they do with Vick. But he can't pass like Vick.

That being said, I would never bet against Tim Tebow.

I think Tebow is hated for a number of reasons...

He does get too much hype. It's the same reason I got tired of hearing about Farve the past few seasons.

    He openly expresses his faith.

He wins, especially in college, etc.

I'm not religious, but don't understand why people dislike him for his faith. He doesn't preach and he lives his life by example. In the offseason, he spends time in an orphanage in the Phillipines and is building a children's hospital there.

He's truly one of the nicest guys around. I heard Ian Eagle on local sports radio here, who was doing the game on the radio, say when Tebow came in the interview room he said, "Hello Mr. Eagle, glad to meet you". Eagle said it was the first time in his career that had happened.

Adam Shefter said that after meeting Tebow, he got a hand written Christmas card from Tebow the next Christmas. Shefter said this was the first Christmas card he'd ever gotten from an athlete.

I understand how people may think he may not ever be a big time QB...But I honestly don't see how anyone can hate him. He's a good kid and I wish there were more like him this world.

That's a totally uninformed statement. Every person who has been around Tebow says he's as good a person as there is. That's not the media saying that. I've never heard one person say he was a phony. He's a good kid.

The guy's just trolling/spamming....I'll listen to him after he's spent some time volunteering in a leper colony like Tebow has, while the rest of his teammates partied in South Beach.

I saw him interviewed since your first post, David. I have to agree with you. He seems like an upstanding person.

Your "Giants" really messed up my football pool though, with last night's loss. Another late season collapse on the way? What are your thoughts on that?

Dennis, last night's game was typical of life in the NFC east. When those teams play, you can throw out the records. It seems like every year that division comes down to the last week. This year, it looks like either the Giants or the Cowboys will win the division.

The last few years, the Giants have been an up and down team. They can lose to the Seahawks one week, and then the very next week go into Gillette stadium and beat the Patriots.

It wouldn't surprise me at all if the Giants beat the Saints in New Orleans on Monday Night Football. In fact, I expect them to. That's who the Giants are. They drive me nuts with their inconsistency, but they were the exact same way when they won the Super Bowl a few years ago.

For better or worse, that's who the Giants are.
