OK...I need help from English speakers not from the US...Where is this damn gecko from? Like most Americans, I have a hard time telling the difference from the various English accents. Is the lizard from the UK, Australia, South Africa, New Zealand? They've been teasing us for over a decade and need some expert opinions.

Who knows, but did you see the LATEST one?

He goes through all kinds of vehicles, and says NO PROBLEM! THEN he says....

"You want someplace to park them all?"

In a new york type accent, he says "FURGETABOWT IT! This is NU YOWK...."!

I just HAD to comment. But YEAH, at least TWICE they made it sound like they were going to tell everyone and cut it off. 8-(

BTW it is a US company that used to be for federal employees, and the biggest stock holder is warren buffett.

      Kurt,

Although that first clip started off with a slight Aussie twang, the rest of it and certainly the second clip is definitely London. East London, I'd say.

Compare with Michael Caine, another east London lad:

Like Frank said, the first 10 seconds sounds a little bit Aussie but then it's definitley a London accent. (Maybe it's an Aussie doing a London accent?)

The gecko speaks with a Cockney accent, because it would be unexpected, according to Martin Agency's Steve Bassett. In current commercials the gecko's accent is more working-class, perhaps in an effort to further "humanize" him.

Just when you think you've got it all figured out, someone changes the rules.

Where EVAH he is from, he is the only commercial I watch. In fact I will go out of my way.

Geico stinks but the Gecco rocks.

(actually I have been impressed by some of their other advertising as well (secretly) and have said to myself they have some advertising geniuses working for them) - and I have noticed some very lame attempts by other companies to add some fun to their advertisements - lame = fell flat - but they say it is the thought that counts).
