October 2009, Kristian went to the doctor with sore ribs, thinking he might have deep vein thrombosis after a long flight. Instead the doctor told him he had bowel cancer. The shock was enormous - especially given his youth.
Now, after two years of fighting, two years of constant chemotherapy and two years in which to create some final memories, Kristian's struggle is almost at an end.
At the time of writing he is in a Sydney hospice waiting for that inevitable moment - perhaps only hours away.
But the video is very special
simple email to the Triple M radio program The Grill in Sydney. Kristian asked if they could help get New Zealand PM John Key and actor Hugh Jackman - two of Rachel's favourite people - in a video as a surprise for his wife. Incredibly, it worked.
