Interesting site, worth bookmarking, but I'd take the "facts" with a grain of salt. He didn't even know The Sparrows was John Kay's band prior to Steppenwolf, so I don't know how thorough the site owner is on fact checking. Some of it seems like opinion to me.

I think that is good advice with any site Dennis.

This is a pretty cool piece of history...Satisfaction may have been the first song ever recorded using a "fuzzbox". If you read the notes below, you can hear them in the song:

Keith Richards used his "fuzzbox," but he also played clean guitar during the song, with Brian Jones strumming an acoustic throughout. This meant that Keith had to switch between his two tones during the song, as multiple tracks were sparse back then and overdubs rare. If you listen to the song at :36 you will hear Keith switching on his fuzz with an audible click, just between Jagger's "get" and "no." At about 1:35, Keith is stomping his fuzz too late, slightly missing his cue, ending up playing the riff a little behind. At his next cue (2:33) he probably wants to be sure that his fuzz is on, so you can hear a short but audible fuzz note (accidentally?) played before the actual riff and slightly before Jagger's "I can't get." (thanks, christopher - vienna, Austria)

Nope it was Paul Burlison and Link Wray who originated the fuzzbox sound and technique
Richards made it popular with that song, but he wasn't the first.
Heck the Ventures used one before Richards in 62.

I didn't write the post correctly...It was the first GIBSON Fuzztone box, not fuzzbox.

Richards (1992): "It was the first (fuzztone box) Gibson made."

And they sold out shortly after the song was released
It's kinda the same story with double bass drums.
Everyone thinks they started with Ginger Baker, Kieth Moon and the like in the 60's.
Well they made them popular, but they had been in use since the 40's.

You've missed the point of my post. It wasn't about who was first or selling out, it was about the mistakes made in one of the most famous songs of all time, and how they are pointed out for those of us that aren't musicians.

According to what you said. I'd say your point was the possibility of Satisfaction being the first song ever recorded using a fuzzbox.

I clarified it for you. And I posted a quote in my original post that gives the times and I posted a video to make it easy for those that wanted to check it out for themseves. It may have been poorly written...But if you want to tell me what my point was, go ahead, you obviously know better than I do.

Kim and the rest you old hippies around here....

There is a show I'm watching on PBS right now called 60s Rock, Pop and Soul.
Wanta feel old? Check out some of the old acts on this one.

Mostly original members of some of the better groups back then (no Grace Slick from Jefferson Airplane, but the girl that's in her place is allright) As far as I remember she said she wouldn't do it again and hasn't as far as I know)....

check it out when you can, I'm sure it will be on a few times.

Might be a skosh of marketing tho....lol

Jim, thats what PBS uses to market to us old hippies nowadays. I have to admit I have to ask myself how they got so old and I didn't!

I will be watching the listings because I really enjoy most of those shows, except of course the half hour marketing /fundraising segments.

Lol...Kim as the show wore on I realized they were marketing either a music compilation or bad rugs (wigs).

It was still kind of fun seeing people that I haven't seen in years.
For instance I had no idea Percy Sledge was still around...Paul Revere and the Raiders had to be lip syncing jumping around like that...lol.

If they did just a little less advertising it would have been better,

I guess there is a series of these...first time I ran into it, outside of the full on infomercials.

I'm guessing I am watching right now the one you saw a few days ago.
I missed the beginning which they said was Paul Revere and the Raiders, which may technically may be correct but wasn't,because Mark Lindsey, the singer of all their hits was not there.
I only saw 2 members of Jefferson Airplane that looked original, but I think the singer did a good job.

A few nights back they had Santana and while his playing was good, his singers were ok,but not great (imo).
Anyway, back to the show for me!
