  • That very well could be where this originated, now that you mention it -
I did not get it from there...but that is a good site for this sort of thing...

I ask because the other day they did an article of the 6 Most Unintentionally Hilarious Magazine Covers. 3 or 4 are the ones you posted.

But anyways, I can only imagine how young men today would handle the situations depicted on these covers. They probably wouldn't have to. With MW3, BF3, and Skyrim out, I doubt many even leave their homes!

  • I went to cracked - and sure enough, there they are!
I wonder who the guy was that used to have to draw those covers all the time...what a job!

You got to remember, that back in the '50s, men read this stuff when they didn't have any thing else to do. And it was all fiction. Then too, we also had Playboy magazine, Popular Science, Popular Mechanics, True Detective, True Crime, and the always present news rags (read mags for the sleaze in all of us).
Gasoline was cheaper then, and the cars and trucks were bigger and built of steel, not like what they are built of now days.
I grew up in the '50s, and I liked to hang out down to the 5&10, where I could read comics, and drink sodas. Comics were five and ten cents, and sodas were a quarter. You could get a hamburger, fries, and a soda for less than a dollar; and bus fare was also a quarter.
Of course, if you lived on a farm, you had fresh milk, fresh cream, butter, eggs, meat; all with out going to the store.

On top of all that, anyone could get a very good paying factory job that could easily support a wife and 4 kids.

  • Technology has changed...now you just get fined - but in the 50's, that was the penalty for driving in the carpool lane without 2 or more people...
Back then - this was just another day on the 405...
