This one is for you, HeySal. I can imagine what you're thinking about overpopulation.

Woman who gave birth to octuplets may also already have 6 kids. What accredited fertility doctor would give fertility treatment to a mother who already has 6 kids?

She lives with her parents in a 3 bedroom house. Can you imagine living in a 3 bedroom house with that many people?

Octuplet Mom May Have Already Had 6 Kids

Neighbors Tell ABC News Woman Is Single Mother Living With Parents
By MIKE VON FREMD and LAUREN SHER
Jan. 29, 2009

The California woman who gave birth to eight babies in five minutes Monday may have already been a mother of six, ABC News has learned.

The octuplets, who were born by Caesarean section and delivered by a 46-member team of doctors at Kaiser Permanente Bellflower Medical Center in Bellflower, Calif., arrived nine weeks premature.

The eighth baby shocked the hospital delivery team, which had been planning for a seven-baby delivery for weeks. The two girls and six boys ranged in weight from 1 pound, 8 ounces to 3 pounds, 4 ounces and totaled over 24 pounds.

The woman, whose name has not been released by the hospital, is only the second ever to give birth to octuplets. The hospital staff would not comment on whether she had received fertility drugs, which have been linked with instances of multiple births.

ABC News' Mike Von Fremd visited the home of the woman, who lives with her parents on a quiet cul-de-sac in the Los Angeles suburbs. With none of the typical joyful markings of a new arrival -- balloons, storks, flowers -- visible, the family and most immediate neighbors wanted nothing to do with the media.

"Do us a favor, give us our privacy and get out, shame on you, shame on you," a man from inside the house screamed at Von Fremd.

Outside the family's home, bikes and toddler toys were scattered across the front yard. Neighbors told ABC News that the woman is a single mother in her thirties who already has six other children. It appears the family will live in a three-bedroom house bursting with babies when the octuplets are released from the hospital in an estimated two months.

An 87-year-old woman who lives next door was not at all pleased.

"With our economy they way it is, with California going to hell in a handbasket, why should I be excited about this?" she asked von Fremd. "What is their future?"

Fertility experts have been extremely critical of such high-risk births, which can threaten the life of the mother. The six prior children raise an additional alarm, and the question of what accredited fertility expert would administer fertility drugs to a single mother of six.

"We dodged a bullet here," said Dr. Anne Drapkin Lyerly, assistant professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Duke University.

Dr. Charles Sophy, medical director of Los Angeles County Department of Children and Family Services, cautioned that giving birth to octuplets would put eight times as much stress on a single mother and pose a daunting task in terms of rearing.

"It costs money to raise children -- to raise these kids is probably going to cost about 2-and-a-half million dollars, just to give them basics," he said. "That is not baseball lessons or piano lessons. That is food, clothing or getting to school every day -- that is a lot of money."

A mother of six on welfare would receive approximately $1,645 a month from the government, according to estimates from child welfare services. A mother of 14 would receive about $2,678 a month in support -- not nearly enough, Sophy says, to create a stable, safe environment for 14 children.

The Department of Children and Family Services would worry that, in a house of 14, there would be a lack of attention or that the children would be at risk of abuse or neglect.

While the hospital has not revealed if the woman received fertility treatments, Sophy said that it is possible to obtain fertility drugs without a traditional doctor's prescription.

"It should be a doctor who prescribes any kind of medication, but as we know, these days through the Internet, through the mail, through other countries, anything is accessible."

Providing all the octuplets survive, she ought to be able to make a mint through sponsorship deals.

I don't see that happening this time. This isn't a new mom that tried forever and couldn't have any but suddenly got pregnant. This is a social parasite that doesn't care about anything but her own wallet. Even her neighbors were disgusted, and that doesn't usually happen in a case like this. I would think that it is time to slap that cat on a table and spay her. I would think also that the state will probably relieve her of many of her children. As has been pointed out, there is no way she can properly care for them. IF they find she was taking fertility drugs she should be arrested for welfare fraud. It's not clear if that litter will survive, but if they do, they need to be put into two parent families with a mommy who isn't a lazy money scheming ho. We don't need 14 kids learning her tricks.

I wonder what the biological father is thinking or doing? How's he going to pay child support on 8 kids? His night of passion just turned into a life sentence of poverty, too.

One good thing is that all the bad press - the disgusted neighbors, the negative controversy, etc - maybe other women will think twice before loading us down with more welfare kids. I'm positive there are no sponsorships coming for this cow except sponsorship of children through adoption.

Yeah, imagine the government handouts she's gonna get now! And she thought she had it good with just six.

Why don't we all start spitting out babies left and right. Just imagine all the diapers and baby food and baby clothing and cribs and jumpers and car seats that Americans will have to make. Why, the American economy will be humming again!

Oh, wait, no, that would be the CHINESE economy that hums.

But think about when the kids grow up! Think of all that government money funneling into our schools, why, teachers would have jobs again!

Oh, but we'd have to shoulder new bond issues to pay for new schools because there are more kids than our current schools can hold...

But think of all those homes that would need to be built! And they'd all need washers and dryers, furnaces, furniture, carpet, cabinets, garage door openers, just all kinds of stuff!

But the homes would be built by cheap Mexican labor and most everything would be imported from overseas...even the shingles.

But think of all the new cars they'd buy! Man, our factories will be singing a happy tune and we won't need to keep giving handouts to the Big Three to keep people employed in the American auto industry! That would be great!

Oh, but they wouldn't buy American cars...

Having that many children is financially and socially irresponsible when you look at the big picture. As if there are not enough people in this world now. Each of those children will grow up and they will EACH have two or three or eight or fifteen children.

Sometimes I really welcome death. Just kill me now and the rest of you can deal with the problems.

Quote: "Do us a favor, give us our privacy and get out, shame on you, shame on you," a man from inside the house screamed at Von Fremd.

Hey, dumba**, you can't have it both ways!

Any word on if she's going to finally tie the tubes? (Lord, I hope.)

There should be a law if someone has enough money to spend on fertility treatment, they should have enough money to support their own kids and not be allowed to get government assistance.

What do you do when you have 2 year old twins and four more kids under 8 years old?

Get fertility treatment to be implanted with 8 embryos!!!

Fertility treatment is expensive so if she can afford fertility treatment after already having 6 kids she doesn't deserve to get any type of welfare or even foodstamps. She should have thought about how she can support the kids she already has before having 8 more. Her mom asked the media, "What was she supposed to do, kill some of her babies?" Ummm no, how about taking care of the ones you already have before getting MORE fertility treatment.

This should inspire lawmakers to make a law that if you can afford fertility treatment, you don't get welfare. I know people that have spend more than $10,000 on fertility treatment once and ended up with twins. This was a couple who tried for 10 years to have kids and couldn't and you practically have to spend your life savings for fertility treatment. It doesn't come cheap. And the doctor who implanted her with all those embryos should get his medical license revoked. People like this just make me sick. She is definitely a schemer just like Sal said. If it was natural it would be different. But nobody has octuplets naturally.

And as for father, who's the daddy? There is no sign of any man. No husband, no boyfriend, nothing. Who is the father anyway? If this was a sperm donation it would be even more disgusting because then the father can't pay child support or help raise his kids. Nobody would even know who the father is. If I was this woman's mother, I'd kill her. This is the craziest story I've heard of in my entire life. If I had 6 kids under 8 the last thing I'd want is more kids. There is no way she or anyone can take care of 14 little kids by themselves. This just makes me mad people can be soooo reckless and stupid.

That's true Thom - more than enough reason to spay them. We are merciful enough to do that for animals, it's time to start on welfare recipients who think of babies as paychecks. I prefer the slaughterhouse for extreme human stupidity like this, but then people scream about it, LOL.
