50 Women Over 50 Who Have Aged Gracefully (PHOTOS)
  • I don't know about aged gracefully, but many of them have aged beautifully -

But Cher? Cmon, that woman has had more plastic surgery than a wrecked Corvette! (nice work though)
She fought age tooth and nail -

(And Bo Derek has sunk to a 9.8 :rolleyes

And they forgot two...Emmy Lou Harris - 64

    And Bonnie Raitt - 62

    both great picks (and pickers)

Some of those women have aged gracefully. But most of the beauty seen in the pictures should be credited to talented make up artists and plastic surgeons IMO.

I didn't realize Emmy Lou Harris was that old. Still stunning looking. The picture of Bonnie looks like it was from the late 70s early 80s..

But I don't recognize the person in the post right above this one.

You're not the only one. I guess she heard that men like women with big lips, and tried to get one of those operations, that was BOTCHED, and I guess she heard men liked thin women with a figure, and STARVED herself! She could maybe gain a DOZEN pounds, have a nice figure, and STILL be considered thin, albeit FAR healtier! Coupled with the ODD look, YIKES! That top right picture looks JUST like someone I saw before. I forget HIS name though. But the face looks IDENTICAL, as I recall.

BTW my mother didn't look much worse before she died. SHE thought she was fat ALSO, but probably didn't have an ounce of fat on her, LITERALLY! And most of you know how SHE ended up. I credit starvation with some of it.

Yup - Emmy is still fine!

I'm not sure when the pic of Bonnie was from...(I couldn't find a small one quick)
but she has had a streak of grey in her hair forever...and Emmy Lou went grey a long time ago - She really made grey look good!

But I was mixing up Joe Pesci with Joe Piscopo - easy mistake...both careers are fishy...

(and Pesci really hates it when people do that line to him...he shouldn't - it made him a star :rolleyes

I may be in the minority here, but I think anyone who undergoes plastic surgery to look younger, especially multiple plastic surgeries, is not someone who is aging gracefully.

On the other hand, "plastic" surgery is a very good name for the practice -- so many of them look like they are partly made of plastic as they continue aging.

Why don't you let the ladies on the forum be the judge of that? Or are you .... chicken?

Jamie Lee Curtis is looking pretty old, but on the flip side, Dana Delany is looking good for even 30. And Christie Brinkley and Olivia Newton-John look pretty young too. Cher is like the female Dick Clark. And although not quite 50, she will be this October, Kelly Preston is still awesome in my book. God I used to love her in "Twins" with Ahnuld.

You can tell the ones that are constantly battling their age - they look a right mess! Tans turn into wrinkles, implants look like tumors, and botox turns you into a clownface.

Since the majority of them have had "work" done, I wonder why Candice Bergen wasn't included. At least she admits to a plumping here and there and she was always stunningly beautiful.

I think Emmy Lou Harris is better looking as an older woman than she was as a young girl. She was a pretty girl but she is a gorgeous woman.

While I agree that she's aged well, I don't think she's as hot as this "Glamor Shot®" type photo posted earlier in the thread would suggest.

As a guy who used to work as a photographer, I will say that proper lighting and Photoshop work way better than Botox.

I'm not trying to be a hater but let's get back to reality. You probably see many ladies her age day to day that look as good as her or better. Think about it...

Again, not trying to hate on her - I think she looks good for her age, but I'm just suggesting that people here wake up a bit.

Jamie Lee Curtis looks great for her age. I think it's awesome she doesn't dye her hair. She was such an inspiration that I tried it. But the gray in mine comes in a nice stripe like a skunk. And my son's remarks about how old I look didn't help either. Kids. Gotta love their honesty.

Some of these women have had such bad plastic surgery they're barely recognizable. Cher needs to stop. And so do a lot of the others. Yikes.

The days of using baby oil and getting a suntan are over. Whenever my nieces think that they need a tan, I need to show them some of the photos of what happens to older people who thought getting a tan was cool.

LOL about the skunk. I am still hoping my hair turns white (no changes yet) so I can buzz cut it like Susan Powter and dye it rainbow colors.

I think there are different types of plastic surgery. Some can correct mistakes like over tanning. But the ones that try to turn back the clock on gravity are the ones that eventually end up looking ghastly.

Skin fixing has great results. Whether it be resurfacing or tightening, both can be done well if not overdone. A little nip/tuck can do wonders. I love before and after pics of ordinary people who have this kind of work done. Usually the goal is to give a fresh look, versus a tired look.

On the otherhand, trying to look 16 at 60 just doesn't work. I don't know why either. We have the technology. I think it should work but it doesn't. When it comes to age reducing plastic surgery, less is more.

Oh and can I just rant about one more thing. What is with these women of a certain age who diet down to the bone then work out like mad to add muscle. They look plain out weird. Unless one is clinically too thin when they are young, they will look good with or without muscle.

The old wisdom was a woman should put on a couple of pounds when she gets older. The plumping makes both the face and the body softer and sweeter. Those hard bodied freaks of today are just plain scary.

Now before I get flamed, I am not talking about body builders. They maintain enough mass to make their muscles big not stringy. I personally don't care for the look but it doesn't make me nauseous like the current cougar clan.

Yes the skunk thing stinks. I was so ready to accept aging gracefully. I let it go for a long time thinking the stripe would morph into at least a partial gray. I stayed strong for a long time. But after coloring my hair, I realized I looked better so I felt better about myself.

I agree, plastic surgery attempting to turn back the clock usually results in the plastic look and ghastly is a nicer word than what I would use. At this point in my life, I have no intention of volunteering go under the knife. "Less is more." So true.

Good luck with the rainbow colors.

Don't get the women who diet and exercise to look like .... what was the model's name who was skin and bones... ?

Cougars. Ha. Reminds me of a piece I recently wrote about women going through menopause. I asked my husband to read it and he suggested I put something in about cougars. I did.

I agree hair color is a big boost for a lot of women. While our aging complexion's seem to look better with lighter hair, for many women, gray is not the answer. I have heard that it is better to dye slightly lighter than your original hair.

Are you thinking of Twiggy as the skinny model? Even she has gained some weight and softness over the years. Smart girl.

As for the cougars, well they are just stuck between a rock and a hard place. As a woman of cougar age who went back on the market after divorce, I can tell you it is a horrible experience. In a culture that prizes youth above all else, it is hard to find a suitable mate once a woman is older. I know countless women in this situation and every single one wound up with an older man.

All the men their age wound up with younger women, 10 years being about the norm. I spoke with tons of guys on the dating scene and since I have always gotten along well with men, I wound up with a lot of friends who confided a lot to me. They wouldn't in a million years be caught dead dating an old broad like me but they prize the intellectual companionship of a contemporary.

          Go figure!

So I empathize with women who are hoping to catch a guy born in their same decade. They pull out all the stops trying to compete with women who look as good rolling out of bed as they do when all made up.

It can't be done. It is a futile pursuit and yet millions join the ranks every day.

With women and weight, I think the problem is that too many have WEIRD ideas about what fat is. If you still have about a 70% waist to hips ratio, you are almost certainly NOT fat. I believe 70% is considered ideal. 70% of a 36" hip is a 25" waist. You COULD use a nice trusted weight calculator to find a good weight for YOU based on size. Some women might NOT quite hit the 70% mark.

As for muscle and fat? A woman's body is MADE to have some fat. If you have like 10% fat or less, you are TOO THIN! It has been shown to throw the endocrine system out of whack. It could affect breast development, your fertility, etc... And you can be PLENTY strong and not BULKY. If you get really bulky, it just isn't attractive.

        LOOK: Body Fat Chart

Women are supposed to have 8 percentage points of fat percentage than men. So that chart says women should have AT LEAST: 10-12% fat Men should have at least 2-4% fat.

When we fight our body type is when we get in trouble. Roseanne Barr will never look like Kate Moss who will never look like Mariah Carey. Each of these women have ranges within their personal types but they can only be what they are.

Yeah, it is ODD how gray hair works! My other hair is the same color it's always been, and people say I look like 30! My beard is a sort of peppered color, and my mustache is lighter with a gray stripe! It was probably partially because of the alzheimers since she never did it before but, towards the end of her life, my mother said she thought I died my mustache to get that effect! It DOES look artificial.

And I agree about Jamie Lee Curtis. She looks like she is naturally that way, and younger.

Why is it that a few strands of gray hair are kinky and stand straight up? That gets a "Yikes."

A mustache with a gray stripe? I say embrace it! How many people do you know have that trait?

Well, When I was younger, I had a cowlick in front. THAT made me look young! I STILL have a cowlick in back, though few would ever notice. ONLY my barber if I wait too long between cuts!

There is no adequate example of what I am talking about. Cowlick is just the appearance of a structure of hair that is growing counter to what is normally expected. In front, the hair pointed up, rather than to the side. In back, on either side, it points up instead of down.

As for the coloring in the mustache, My mother said she liked it. I think it is a nice effect. Nobody else even mentioned it. At least it is uniform.

While we are on the subject, why do eyebrows get bushier with whisker like hairs? I see it more on men I guess because they are not in the habit of tweezing. I find it positively revolting. I couldn't even look at Andy Rooney.

Like George Harrison put it: "Something in the way she moves,..."

Popular Body styles do change - Marilyn is an icon - but she was what...a size 12? 16?...
And what about Jane Russell? or Jane Mansfield?
Now women's dresses are in size 2? and even size ZERO?

What is that...size zero? Does that mean you're so small you're invisible? or what?

It's all a game - I sometimes wonder how women put up with the sizing system they've been dealt. When a guy walks into a store, he's waist size 32...that's what he buys. What a Woman buys for that I have no idea - it depends on the maker...

Oh, and Ladies...while I'm on a rant - this "opposite button" thing has got to end sometime soon...seriously, when was the last time you had a handmaiden to dress you?
