Sports Fans: A Salute to Mark Tauscher

This won't mean much to most of you, but there are some guys in sports that are about more than just the money.

Mark Tauscher, the Green Bay Packers starting right guard for over a decade, has retired due to injuries. He took out a half-page ad in today's Milwaukee Journal Sentinel to thank the Wisconsin Badgers and Green Bay Packers fans for all their support during his 16-year football career.

Tauscher grew up in Wisconsin and played college ball at the University of Wisconsin, and then was drafted by the Packers and played his entire professional career for them. He had chances to go elsewhere for more money, but wanted most to be a career Packer.

Tauscher was always a blue collar, lunch bucket kind of player that fans love. Taking out the half-page ad to thank the fans was a great gesture to close his career with a touch of class, IMO.

There are still some good guys in sports, guys that give more than they take, but it seems increasingly rare these days. "Tausch" is one of the good guys.

Or course, Tauscher also did a lot of charity work and things for the community, but I just wanted to salute him for his loyalty to the team, the fans, and the state.

Got any players like that on your favorite sports team? Salute them here!
