I have installed windows and Linux on my laptop.
At first it worked fine and I updated my ubuntu.
Then I found windows missing.
I had to update the bootconfig of windows.
Now ubuntu is missing. I tried using BCDeditor. The result was miserable. I lost both of my operating systems.

Any help to recover both without a re-installation.

Better off asking here Ubuntu Forums
I 'lost' Windows when I installed Ubuntu also.
I tried a few things to get a dual boot, but never got it right.
I finally just deleted all the Windows files and now just run Ubuntu.
Another Warrior installed Ubuntu around the same time and got his machine to dual boot.
From what you said you may have to reinstall both O.S.'s.
But remember that's coming from the guy who couldn't get them to work together
