I do my daily routine and check my email to find that someone has bought my phone on Ebay. I have 2 emails from Ebay saying where to send it to, and 2 emails from service@paypal saying that once I send the item, I should send in my tracking ID so I can receive the payment.
DING DING DING, alarm bells should have been ringing but no.. The paypal email looked so authentic and natural that I didn't take a second look (by the way, this is the first time I've used Ebay so I wasn't exactly sure what the payment routine was. I use my local marketplace TradeMe for New Zealand).
So I staggered down to the post office while trying my hardest to control my headache. Filled in the form. Gave it to the man. Payed $67 NZD for airmail tracking. Then ventured my way back home taking the longer route to escape the vile sound of cars.
I sat back at my computer which when I clicked,
"WTF HAVE I DONE SENDING IT TO SOUTH AFRICA BY AN EMAIL ADDRESS FROM "PAYPAL"!?!?!?"
I googled "service@paypal" which confirmed it. I ran out of the house without my shoes, holding my receipt, SPRINTING back to the post office. I managed to convince them to not send it, they kindly gave back my item and my money with their last words
"Don't be a fool again, haha"
So after spewing up several times on the way home due to the adrenaline of running to the post office before they send off my item and the stupidity I felt, I am writing this message to hopefully save someone the heartache and generally for people to laugh at me.
At least I will never make that mistake again.
Peace.
