Have YOU Ever Been Scammed Online?

Hey Warriors,

I just finished writing a Short story of how I got scammed by an unscrupulous marketer including insights I've arrived at after the fact. Essentially, the clues I missed along the way.

BTW, this didn't happen on the Warrior Forum.

Anyway, I was thinking about putting it up as my first WSO. But now, I'm wondering if my offer wouldn't be allowed since it's about How to Spot an Online Thief before he steals your money and NOT about Making Money.

* I know it's Not a SEXY topic but, an Important One. Obviously, the idea is to HELP my fellow warriors to not fall for the same tricks that I did and perhaps to recoup some of what I lost.
Please share your thoughts re: a couple questions.

1.) Would this topic be allowed as a WSO?

2.) Have YOU ever been scammed online?

    1.) Dunno, why not post it as a free article instead? Maybe you can upsell an ebook, this way.

    2.) Yes, once or twice, but each time I managed to get (some of) my money back. Lot of hassle, though.

      Thanks for responding. Good to hear you got some money back. My experience was just a long hassle and empty promises that obviously never materialized.

    Once I was scammed via a PayPal chargeback by someone in a foreign (Asian) country, that I will not name. I went through the whole dispute resolution process at PayPal, and ended up getting most of it back and getting his account locked. But, in addition, I went to a lot of trouble tracking him down and filed a criminal complaint electronically (yes, I know, pretty neat!), which resulted in the local cops there actually opening a case and contacting the culprit. This caused a panicked fraudster emailing me frantically and begging to "please stop this", etc. Once I received the PayPal refund, I didn't continue with the criminal complaint, since it would be impossible for me to testify, etc. due to the logistics, but the begging and fact that he was contacted provided satisfaction enough. I also, of course, posted about his scam on all forums where he operated and I think he got the message - that in this day and age it is much easier to "reach out and touch" someone, despite their distant location. Never saw or heard from that guy again, either.

    I have only ever been scammed online while using ebay. I tried to buy a ps2 a while ago and after I sent in my payment I never received the ps2. Luckily, I received a PayPal refund.

    If it saves you from losing money that is the same as making money because as the saying goes, "a penny saved is a penny earned".

    Once I was dumb enough to enter my password and user ID when prompted by an official looking email from Microsoft Security or something like that and lost my email address. It said I had X amount of minutes with a countdown.

    Kokopelli, Thanks for sharing that story. Good to hear that the system worked in your favor and that you got at least part of your money back. I never did go to the official complaint site. Once I realized I was screwed, it was time to just put my head down and get busy. Thought it would turn into a big hassle anyway. Plus, I think the guy was on the run since all his sites were down and there was a class action suit being filed against him for an entirely different scam. Mine paled in comparison. But still, it was more than I wanted to loose, for sure.

    Tylerman169 I've never done anything with ebay but, have been considering it just lately for a few things I'd like to move along. Of course, I'd be the sender and not the receiver.

    Also, while Paypal has it's quirks, it is usually a helpful safe guard. Worked for kokopelli too.

    Spock1 I was thinking of that quote earlier when I first posted. But, who wants to think in terms of pennies around here? LOL In any event, I agree.

    Can't be too careful with those official looking emails, huh? If it's questionable, I usually run the backend of the url after the "@" in a search to see what shows up. Did that one arrive in your inbox or spam?
