What Do You Travel With?

I have been starting to travel more once again...

Now that I have added more toys to my collection it seems like I am spending way too much time packing all the cables, adapters, power cords etc.

I travel with the following:

- 11" Macbook Air (power cable)

- Apple Magic Mouse Bluetooth

- Apple Ethernet to USB dongle

- Logitech Laptop cooling stand with mouse pad

- 10" Android Acer A500 tablet (power cable, HDMI cable, USB cable)

- Spider Stand for tablet (attaches to pretty much anything)

- iPhone (USB, wall charger, adapter for lapel mic)

- Bose Noise cancelling ear phones (over ears for flights)

- Bose noise cancelling earbuds

- Portable USB Speakers

- Blue Snowball USB Mic

- Kodak Zi8 with accessories (remote, widescreen lens, 2 lapel mics, wall charger, extra battery, USB extension cable, L bracket handle)

- Rhode shotgun mic (sometimes)

- Nikon DS80 SLR Camera (sometimes)

- Tripod full size (sometimes)

- Gorilla Stand tripod

- 8 GB Thumbdrive

- Portable HD with hundreds of movies (both for MBA and WD TV)

- WD Media Player with HDMI and RCA cables (to watch movies on TV)

- USB SD and Micro SD Card reader

These are just some of the things I travel with.

I have been using pencil bags to pack alot of the cables and accessories lately. But they dont last very long and start to rip. Also I prefer to be able to see my cables and whats inside so I am thinking about picking up a few of these clear travel bags:

Clear Organizer Pouches: TOM BIHN

What do you guys travel with and how do you organize and pack it all away?

I am thinking about ordering a 2nd set of cables, chargers, adapters of all my stuff so I can just keep it all packed for travel only.

Any ideas on cable management, cases, etc?

          lol...

Yea I got plenty of room for clothes still

Since alot of that stuff I pack in my Thule backpack and carry on the flight.

I always use a big bag and got rooms for 4-5 days worth of clothes.

Washbag, underwear and a book for recreational holidays.

Literally nothing else other than what I am wearing.

I've often found that the best clothes to wear in any location are invariably the ones sold at that location, so why bother trying to work it out?

    WOW! OK, ****I CAN RELATE!!!!****!

    - 11" Macbook Air (power cable)
I currently have an aspire 5552-7803. I will likely start carrying my eee netbook for local short distance travel.

    - Apple Magic Mouse Bluetooth
    I use the included touchpad

    - Apple Ethernet to USB dongle
Both are included in my case

    - Logitech Laptop cooling stand with mouse pad
    I havn't prepared here. 8-(

    - 10" Android Acer A500 tablet (power cable, HDMI cable, USB cable)

    - Spider Stand for tablet (attaches to pretty much anything)
I'm hoping the next generation will live up to the promise, and will buy then. For now, I have an ectaco and B&N reader.

[quote]- iPhone (USB, wall charger, adapter for lapel mic)[quote]

I have an android I plan to switch to.

    - Bose Noise cancelling ear phones (over ears for flights)

    - Bose noise cancelling earbuds
I probably won't get BOSE, but plan to get them.

    - Portable USB Speakers
I have some, but usually just use the ones on my laptop.

    - Blue Snowball USB Mic
    Included on my laptop

    - Kodak Zi8 with accessories (remote, widescreen lens, 2 lapel mics, wall charger, extra battery, USB extension cable, L bracket handle)
I have a nice and capable samsung

    - Rhode shotgun mic (sometimes)

    - Nikon DS80 SLR Camera (sometimes)

    - Tripod full size (sometimes)

    - Gorilla Stand tripod
    I'm not into photography.

    - 8 GB Thumbdrive

    - Portable HD with hundreds of movies (both for MBA and WD TV)
I have thumb drives up the wazoo, 2GB to 64GB. I have two portable disks, but tend to only take one. It has most of the stuff I have had.

    - WD Media Player with HDMI and RCA cables (to watch movies on TV)
Don't have one, but plan to have a tablet that does this.

    - USB SD and Micro SD Card reader
    Included on the laptop.

Yeah, cable management, etc..., is my biggest problem. I have a few USB cables just in case, to use the drive, and to help charge many devices. And there is the computer charger. 8-( WHY do laptop manufacturers and case makers give ***NO*** thought to such things?

One company FINALLY did something I thought about for a LONG time, but never bothered to do. It falls a LITTLE hort of what I want, and varies, but they ARE more geared to apple! Maybe YOU will appreciate this!

SCOTTEVEST Travel Clothing: Jackets, Vests, Shirts, Pants & More

BTW THANKS for showing the cases you plan to use fo cables. I have been using those gallon ziploc bags.

The over the ears Bose headphones are awesome on Plane trips. Blocks out most of the noise from the engine and noisy kids...lol

      I'm not into photography.

Im not really as well... I just use it to capture better pics of friends and people I network with on trips.

Don't have one, but plan to have a tablet that does this.

Noting compares to the WD Media Player. It really does ROCK! The problem with using a tablet to play movies is that alot of hotels or inns moight not have HDMI TV's which means you wouldnt be able to plug in your tablet to it.

I just came back from a trip to Laguna Beach and the Inn we stayed at only had RCA. The WD Media Player has both HDMI and RCA :-)

Trust me on this.... When you get one of these devices, you will wonder why did I wait this long to buy this $89 device!

I do NOT and will NOT travel by air until they quit their gestapo bs in the airports. I don't pay taxes to live in a society that mirrors Germany circa 1938.

Since my camera is at the bottom of a very deep ravine in Washington, and I don't have a laptop right now, and further, refuse to own a cell phone -- I don't take any electronics with me at all. When I get both another camera and laptop, that will be it. I've thought of GPS, and might get a handheld GPS or GPS watch for trips into rock and gem hunting areas that are hard to pinpoint without it.

So for now, I take my dog, a rock pick, classifiers, shovel and camping supplies and clothes. That's wherever I go because I never know when I'm going to want to take off from the highways and get into the back country.

Dr. Don - if I had a list like yours, I think it would be time to re-examine my life. It's really not normal to be that wired. really.

I have a good rapport with many of the TSA HERE, and I said as much as I dared to one guy, after he patted me down. I told him that it was ILLEGAL to have those scanners, and they are skirting by on a little perceived technicality, that is not even valid, and that I don't trust those machines. You know what HE said? He said that their UNION is concerned about that as well, and fighting it, because THEY are exposed MORE, etc... Of course I told them that they aren't REALLY exposed that much more, if at all, because they stand out of the way, and it is sheilded somewhat.

One of the FIRST things the FDA did, when it started, was OUTLAWED RADIOACTIVE substances sold to the public! YEAH, some sold them claiming they were GOOD for health! They ALSO caused COKE to remove cocaine! You will note that those ites STILL aren't allowed even though they don't have the crazy claims.

BTW Having sattelites track you is difficult. You would have to have several at various points try to find out how far away you are, and the data would have to be gathered and tied to a place on the MAP. The computational power required would be HUGE, as millions may be using the same sattelites! GPS systems do the opposite. They find several sattelites they identify, and do the calculations THERE to find its OWN position. So older, and hopefully newer, GPS systems DON'T reveal your position. They probably can't even identify your signal. Of course, some phones, etc... DO send back gps information, but that is ANOTHER story.

Some of the old fasioned GPS systems might be up your alley. The ones that simply give map coordinates. It is unlikely that THEY are bugged, I believe they are cheap. They are small(like watch size), but are GREAT if you are a doit yourselfer that just wants confirmation, and to know PRECISELY where you are. A few decades ago, when GPS technology existed, but the fancy computers really didn't, the old style ones were the ONLY kind you could get. They were HUGE, and expensive, like $1000! NO voice! NO fancy text! NO "turn right now"! NO map! etc...! They still sold though!

I really dont like to travel by air as well... because of all the gamma radiation from flying. Crazy that Pilots have the most health hazardous job because of this. It really wipes me out

I am only that wired because I like to have the choice to work or not work on my trips, so that I can extend my stay as long as I like.

I always take time to relax and unplug on my trips at some point.

Its hard to do this at times... especially when you love what you do and you dont really look at it as work

Wow. That's a lot stuff Dr Dan. I'll be traveling soon and since I am forcing myself to take a real mini-vacation, I'll be leaving the electronics behind. It is going to be very difficult not to take the laptop, but for a short getaway, I need to unplug. I will have the smart phone so I can read emails though - can't leave without that.

Sal, I have not taken a flight since they started the full body scan. I'm not looking forward to going through the ridiculous airport procedure, but I want to see my sister and she lives too far for a road trip.

I'll be taking a few clothes, buy anything I want when I get there, the smart phone, and carry on so I don't have to go through the baggage claim process.

I still bring most of my stuff so I can stay as long as I like. I turned a 4 day trip to Laguna Beach into a 2 week trip which was amazing

Nothing like working on your laptop from the beach.

The full body scan gives off so much radiation like being shoved into a Microwave unit.

They have already been outlawed in many European countries because of this.

When you are about to go through the microwave... you can elect to opt out of it and they will just set you aside and lightly pat you down instead.

This is what I do instead of walking through the Tumor machine...lol... but really....

Lori - you are saying "too far for a road trip" to someone who drives from California to New York without batting an eyelash.

It worries me that people are not willing to unplug completely. It's not healthy to never be unconnected.

BTW Those back scatter scanners in the airports ARE illegal in the US! The law says the dose must be monitored, must be limited, and must not be used capriciously. ALSO, they must be appropriately calibrated and checked, and used only by radiologists. They are controlled by the FDA.

*****BUT***** they claim that because the machines are used capreciously and not for medical reasons that the FDA has no jurisdiction. NEVER MIND that they BANNED tryptophan for so long, ban marijuana, etc.... Tryptophan is OFFICIALLY a supplement that they are NOT supposed to touch, and marijuana was not used for medical benefits. NEVER MIND that software development at the ARC is slowed down because the ****FDA**** has said they have ****NO**** computers to manage the donors/tests! YEP, YOU HEARD ME! I use it as an inside joke, but it is REAL! The FDA has NO jurisdiction over computers, but says that because BLOOD is used to treat problems, and because tests are needed for the blood, and that must be tied to donors, that those computers are NOT computers that they have no jurisdiction over!!!!!! They are MEDICAL DEVICES that they DO have jurisdiction over! So those COMPUTERS are treated as the backscatter devices should be!

You can't even claim that Oranges can cure/prevent/treat scurvy, even though it is widely acknowledged that they can, because the FDA could step in and shut you down!

But it is OK for TSA agents to superdose passengers with radiation! GIVE ME A BREAK!

Depends if it's for pleasure, work or an IM event.

I always travel with travel candles and essential oil room spray! First thing I do when I arrive is move out all the hotel looking advertisements and put them in the desk. I spray the room. Set up my laptop and ipod speakers. (Yes, I've even moved a chair or two) I like to bring ballerina slippers and my own robe as well.

Plus, a couple of, my favorite tea's , emergen C packets, protein drinks, maybe healthy snacks and make sure to get a lot of water at the hotel lobby.

If at an IM event or work related I also bring
Laptop, Iphone, Kindle, Cannon vixia with tripod, cables, notebooks, biz cards, lots of clothes and shoes. recorder, Microphones, xtra batteries, flip cam, etc.

Then I'm all set, my room is relaxing and I feel more at home so it's easier for me to recharge and enjoy my stay.

      Nice....

I would like to bring my yoga mat, but dont have too much room left in my bag...lol

I just use the hotels towels as a yoga mat

I might start bringing some candles, sea salt (helps cleanse / clear the energy of room), and oils as well.

I also stop at Whole Foods, Trader Joes, or a grocery store to stock up on healthy food and snacks on each trip.

Will you be at the Warrior Networking Event in March?

I just got my tickets and cant wait to hang with my fellow Warriors again

Yeah, Dan. I understand the need for the "office" when traveling on business. I also know that people are unwilling to unplug completely no matter where they go. I have a real fight to get people to leave their cellphones behind when taking them into gem hunting regions.

Not only do I not want them sending pics back so people can locate us while we're in isolated areas, I don't want people knowing I'm not home until after I get back. I don't want people's attention to be diverted when we are someplace we can actually get any reception....good way to watch someone step too close to a snake or other hazard. I also don't want people getting the false idea that in an emergency they can just call their way out because even if you CAN get reception in an emergency, which isn't usual, that doesn't mean that someone can do more than pull your dead carcass out of the area when they find you. People with cell phones in the wild are just too much of a danger to have with because they think that it will keep them safe and they just don't use their heads enough.
