everyone will want more. but everyone had different expierences and im guessing they dont know which passengers simply walked off and onto a lifeboat without breaking a sweat and the ones that were rolling around resturants etc. and to the familys of those who died this is not enough. you can put a price on a life

Cuz of the volcano eruption, we couldn't get our flight to their docks on time because obviously every airport in Europe was pretty much close.

      NO NO NO.

They said the volcano is not their fault and didn't try to work this out with anyone.

We lost well over $5000 dollars (Stolen from us basically) with no remorse.

They are RICH like a mofo and totally deserve what happened.

It's their SUPER SHADY practices that got them to go down like that.

The ppl should NEVER settle for that 14,000 amount and sue the pants of this organization.

This shady organization should NEVER EVER be in business again.
In MOST cases, this is LEGAL, and MANY would do that. They usually have "act of god" type agreements. I agree though in that they shouldn't be allowed to.

I was shocked recently! I bought a plane ticket, and canceled it. You think the CRUISE industry is bad? In the US, in MOST cases, if you cancel a plane ticket, you generally will NOT get a refund! IF you cancel before the flight, they give you "FULL CREDIT"! *******BUT******* you can NOT use the credit! If you try, they dock you $100-$150(on average), AND they will charge you for any increase in cost. ALSO, if you don't try to use it within about a year, you lose it ALL!

IMAGINE my surprise when I found that an airline that I have a credit with MIGHT not charge me the $150 fee! You want to guess why? Because I could NOT have flown the flight anyway, because it was cancelled for weather! Of course, I won't know if I can get my credit unless I try within an unspecified time that is less than about 8 months.

The article says different.... It says.... "Italian ship operator Costa Crociere SpA on Friday put the figure at euro11,000 ($14,460) plus reimbursement for the cost of cruise tickets and extra travel expenses, " So that is maybe about $9,000 more than I would have offered as cash. This is a LOT of money to pay. It doesn't SOUND like much, but let me put it into perspective. This means that they will be out over $57 million dollars in ADDITION to the costs that THEY paid for the crew, supplies, food, entertainment, and the ship. And they STILL have potential class action lawsuits, etc... The costs could be enormous. according to the miami herald:

Costa is the third-largest of Carnival’s cruise lines, so experts say the short-term woes will be expensive for one of South Florida’s largest employers. Forecasts by Barclays and UBS agree the dramatic capsizing will cost Carnival about 20 percent of its profit this year —roughly a $400 million loss.

So they lose 20% of their profit this year. Costs of over $457million!

Regarding the 'Act of God' thing, they never mentioned that when we asked them. Just "sorry it's your fault if you can't make it". I replied by saying "okay next time we'll ask the volcano when is it deciding to erupt again and plan accordingly" lol
With planes, failing to cancel prior to a certain time means NO compensation!

They DON'T "mention" act of god, etc... It is hidden somewhere in their policies. And they often DON'T say that acts of god mean that you get your money back. It usually says the OPPOSITE! The volcano incident is different, if it caused them to miss stops BUT, if they made the stops, they see your cancellation as a cut in their profit.

WHEN did you cancel anyway? Almost NO place will fully refund you, and many won't refund at ALL, if you just miss the meeting.

      Hotels? Give up first day!
      CARS? Give up first day!
      PLANES? Lose it ALL!
      etc....

      • Costa is insured. The cost of compensation to passengers comes out of that.

Homeboozeboy: A better cruise line (one not owned by Carnival Corporation) would have made accommodations for the fact you could not get to the ship.

Seasoned: I don't fly any more, haven't for nearly 13 years. Their punitive ticketing policies are a big part of it, as well as coach seats crammed together so they guy in front of you reclines into your lap. We drive, go by ship or take the train. There's no place I'm in that much of a hurry to get to.

The cruise industry is terrified that people will decide cruising is dangerous just because of one slipshod captain. There may be deals coming up.

OK, I have million dollar insurance policy! You mean that I could have someone slip, promise them a million bucks, and my insurance will simply pay? ******SORRY******! It does NOT work like that! ALSO, if they ever DO pay, my premiums go up!

GREAT IDEA! I never thought of that(sarc)! It will only take me about 2 days to get to my next assignment, if I make no wrong turns, and drive for 7 hours each day. So I waste 4 days of my life doing something that would make me a nervous wreck. I don't know WHAT to do if I am asked to go to california, where it would take about SIX days!

I think they know that THEY won't get rid of the industry.

BTW the concordia is estimated to take maybe 10 months to clean up. The blode woman claimed he left after 11:30!
