Trick question! It is IMPOSSIBLE to ***BUY*** a server in the sense that you mean. But HERE, I will price it out for you!

    1. Standard software/os? FREE! Competing standard could cost well OVER $10,000 per computer, and will have limited users!
    2. SSL for secure connections? Less than $100 per system year if you work it out right. It could also cost several thousand dollars.
    3. BASIC hardware? Maybe $200, but can go well into the billions! $200 could EASILY beat the averaged shared server though.
    4. Connection hardware? As little as no extra cost(included with connection), to many thousands! Likely one payment though!
    5. Actual connections? Probably start at OVER $100/month, but can be sky high!
Ideally a server should have high bandwidth BOTH ways, be trusted as an email relay, and have a dedicated IP address. A normal internet connection has a limited upload speed, often will NOT relay, and is NOT dedicated! Connections can EASILY break, so some companies have 3 or more. If three, figure like TRIPLE the monthly cost!

2.Where did they buy the server ?Or where can we buy server online ?
You can "buy" the hardware, os, etc... almost ANYWHERE, but it won't be hooked up to the internet!

3.How much do you think facebook bought the web server for ?
I don't know about facebook, but youtube probably spent MILLIONS!

There IS a reason why internet hosting is still a viable business model, and THIS is it!

You can buy an IBM server machine that can serve 1 heavy traffic website or 50 low traffic sites for $2000. Check out IBM server prices in google. But you will need to have a reliable internet connection (should be 100 mbps or T2/T3 connection), and uninterruptible power supply (not the ones for the PC, preferrably a standby power generator). Then you will also need a Windows or Linux Server OS...

When it comes to security on the server is the cost to purchase such a service is very different.

Facebook have more than "web servers".

Think less of single computers and more of huge buildings housing endless rows of computers, some in remote parts of the planet to take advantage of climate, that cost well beyond anything that most people can afford and you'd be a little bit closer to the mark.

They have worldwide data centres which have supposedly cost in excess of 1 Billion with $606 Million to date on servers and network gear with a forecasted expenditure of $500 Million in 2012.
