    Hi, welcome to the forum.

I have grave doubts about the efficacy of a lot of alternative medicines. I'd go so far as to say they're an alternative to something that works!

Pretty well any herbal medicine that works has been synthesised and marketed in a safer form than the original herb. The purity and consistancy being greater and more reliable than the source.

Many claim "it's natural and therefore safe". This is Taurean faeces! tobacco, coca leaves and poison ivy are all natural, are they safe?

Allergy testing from health shops is an out and out rip off. I had an elderly relative relieved of £150 only to be told she was allergic to just about everything! The poor soul dumped a lot of perfectly good food and subsequently found her ailment was nothing to do with diet and was soon fixed with conventional treatment from her GP.

So far as I can ascertain, Reiki is a virtually a pyramid scheme and far from ancient.

Yoga and it's cousin Pilates are good and of great benefit.

I'd tread very carefully in this area as I'm sure the authorities will soon clamp down on this dangerous nonsense, and not before time.

I used to belong to a PLR site and cancelled when I found what lethally inaccurate rubbish was being written. I remember one example when a chemical known as CMC (carboxymethyl-sodium) was stated to be highly dangerous and to avoid anything that contained it.

CMC is used in everything from ice cream to artificial saliva and eye drops.

Having used CMC in chemical formulations in a previous business, I researched this claim. If it's inhaled in powder form it is indeed dangerous. Fortunately, the consumer is unlikely to encounter it in anything other than a liquid where it's totally harmless.

I've no doubt others will say I'm wrong, that's up to them and their sense of ethics.

If you are looking for PLR for the alternative medicine niche, just do a search in the WSO section or google "plr alternative medicine" and see what you find.

Alternative medicine is why I am alive. But I will agree that people who think something is safe because it's natural need to learn what they are doing before they start mixing herbals. Foods that cure are safe, though - such as Orange Juice. It has a natural antihistamine in it and if I start feeling inhalant allergies attacking orange juice puts them under control fast and deliciously.

And you had the answer to your other question already.

    Hi Sal,

I totally agree about foods, especially "eating your greens" etc.

Not all alternative medicine is bad. It's good that orange juice works for you. Another example of this sort of thing is cranbury juice, it's fantastic for infections of the urinary tract.

A lot of the elderly succomb to these infections that could be prevented with a daily intake of cranbury juice.

I just get annoyed about the almost daily product launches of wonder herbs, teas and pills of zero efficacy. Often the poorer members of society waste money on these things.

Interesting about orange juice, it's one of the few things I'm allergic to, along with English beer (bitter) they give me migraine.

Regarding beer, I can drink lager and American beers with no ill effects so I assume there's an additive of some sort in the English beer.

      Hi,

I have always believed that what you eat plays a major role in your overall health and well being. Eating organic whole foods not only can heal dis-ease but also can be a preventative because of their higher nutritional density.

I had studied a bit in the field of holistic nutrition.

I would caution anyone interested in writing or working in an alternative medicine field that you cannot, due to laws in the US, prescribe or diagnose.

You can only educate. The "language" you use must be careful to only inform of other alternatives and not be perceived as recommending.

That's the first and foremost rule I was required to learn when I was studying.

There are many different fields of alternative medicine. Focus on one that you find interesting or already are familiar with and learn as much as you can.

      Hope that helps,

      Kevin
