    OMGosh!

    That's just despicable!

What is this world coming to?

This is exactly why when I take my grandchildren shopping with me, we are holding hands and if I need to use my hands to view an item, I have them stand in front of me.

Crazy. Good thing she got away though.

So where was the mom when this girl was almost kidnapped?

edit: Another article says that the girl was in the toy section while the mother was picking up groceries.

I don't know about you guys, but in every Walmart I've been to, the toys are pretty far away from the groceries. Like at least 50 feet away with no direct line of sight.

I know I'm not supposed to say it's the mother's fault that her girl almost got kidnapped, but after this incident she'll probably stay closer to her daughter in stores as she should have all along.

      Oh, look at this:

People don't feel comfortable leaving their purse or wallet unattended in a different aisle of the store, so why do they feel fine leaving their kids alone in a different aisle of the store?

Is a child less important than a wallet or a purse?

When I take my kids to the store, I keep them in sight at all times. They can only be in the same aisle that I'm in. It's just the smart thing to do in a crazy world.

A child IS less likely to be stolen, more likely to fight back, and harder to explain! Comparing a child to a wallet or purse is kind of silly. I was put in charge of watching 7-20+ kids ALL BY MYSELF! Do you have ANY idea how hard that is? GRANTED 1 to 3 is easier, but sometimes ONE is ENOUGH! The BEST thing would be to have someone watch the kids in a CONTROLLED environment while you go to the store, but inflation and all has even caused problems with THAT! AND the idea of a "livable wage" *****AUTOMATICALLY***** is self defeating! Suppose that wage is $50/hour! ****BANG**** you are now making ZERO because, thought you make $50, you must pay $50, etc....

Your a better man then me. I have hard time keeping up with JUST my 2 year old.

I cannot even begin to imagine trying to keep all those kids safe,
out of trouble, ect at the same time.

Well, the 20+ were in a room at church. But they WERE a hand full. But the 7? That was at an amusement park. Luckily, MOST were OK. But I was a nervous wreck. USUALLY I try to be entertained, and stay with the group of people that are WELL into their teens or older. At THIS point, I tried to keep them together while trying to keep track of where the other group was, and couldn't really have any fun.

Suffice it to say I do NOT want to watch over other people's kids!

I knew this one family and they had over 9 kids! They waited about 14 years after their first kid to have the rest. Their daughter then acted as babysitter to the rest. Now THAT is the way to go!

Right, but the idea that one thing is less likely to be stolen than another is not the main factor in me deciding who or what I will leave unattended. Another thing is how much I'd care if a wallet or a child is stolen. Based on that, I'd rather leave my wallet out of sight in a public place than my child.

In some ways, yes. Other ways, no.

Having taught elementary school kids, I do know how hard that is.

You don't need to take kids to the baby sitter because you're going to the store. As a matter of fact, my family and I are getting ready to go to the store right now. You just keep an eye on them - like a wallet - and don't let them out of your site. And it's not the likelihood that they'll get kidnapped that motivates me to keep such a close watch, it's just that a parents children are more precious than diamonds and no chances should be taken.

I have had a habit all my life. I ****NEVER**** put my wallet in my back pocket. If anyone dares to TRY to take anything like that, they better hop I don't get a good hold on any apendage. I'm good with headlocks too.

I also NEVER put the stuff on my dinner table. I NEVER understood why so many do.

But I have a hard enough time watching my computer when I am at the airport and the restaurant can't figure out that most people are there to fly and have things to watch!

It would take everything in me not to seriously hurt someone who tried that with my kid.

If it happens to your kid, DO seriously hurt the person.

I would prob wind up in prison somewhere for a long time.

and if he actually hurt my kid, i most likely would never get released.

I think in this day and age you would find enough support to get you out very quickly.
I raised 3 girls as a single father and a 4th one as a stepfather after I remarried. I let it be known to everyone if anyone touched a hair on their head it would be the last thing they ever touched. And I meant it.

If I caught that guy, in the store, I know EXACTLY what I would do! I did half of it once when I was a little kid, not much bigger than that girl. Someone was attacking me like they knew karate, and I figured it might be my one clear shot, so I took it. I might even show her how to do it, just for fun. Of course, I did it on someone only twice my size, and maybe twice as strong. I would take his hand, twist it around, and pull it to his back. If he were lucky, only his wrist would be broken. Of course I COULD slip and hurt the arm and shoulder as well. I would try to push him to the ground as well, and call 911. After that, he would probably not feel like trying to kidnap ANYONE, and it would be far harder and more dangerous to do so. I imagine the handcuffs would be torture!

The real question is WHY he was trying to kidnap this girl. Was it for money? To rape? To have a forced adoption? Or what?

I would brain him with a baseball bat or a table myself. Someone like that doesn't deserve the dignify of an honest and clean fight.

It wouldn't be very dignified! If he were running, and I caught up to him, or he just let the kid free, he would probably be open to attack. Nobody would blame me, and it is possible that people could believe it to be an accident. It's just a few twists of the wrist, and could happen if you are jacked up and forcing the arm back. If you "brain him", especially in a store, which is hard anyway, you could end up worse off.

You're right though, he doesn't deserve anything decent.

Yes, absolutely. I just read that her parents had been teaching her how to react to such a situation:

BREMEN | 7-year-old's escape inspired by kidnapping and murder of Jorleys Rivera | 11alive.com

"...the 7-year-old's family was talking to her about avoiding abduction...Those talks intensified when 7-year-old Jorelys Rivera was kidnapped and murdered a few counties away in Canton."
