WP Plugins That Do The Same Thing

I'm noticing that a bunch of different wp plugins that I purchased at different times pretty much do the same thing. Sorting them out is a task in itself to figure out which ones are useful, which work best, which ones are redundant, comparison studying with different sites.

I have to say that sometimes claims about plugins can be misleading, eg one that claims to automatically pull up ads from different sources, then it turns out that the user has to select banners and paste in the banner code. That is not automatic and there are free plugins that do that. I have/ have had scripts that do it automatically (some not for wordpress per se) and there is a difference.

    T-Bird,
WP Plugins seem to be the flavor of the month right now. And when that happens you get all sorts of things.
    Copy Cat plugins.
    Poorly written plugins
Stolen Plugins that have just been reversed engineered and renamed.
I bought a WSO plugin earlier this year that basically ate 90% of my files.I literally lost thousands of dollars worth of programs and information.
The sellers attitude was basically "gee, too bad".
I now test on a machine that has basically an OS and a internet connection and a WP that I don't care if something happens to it.

But you are right, there is a difference between something that claims to work automatically and doesn't and something that claims to and actually does!

Php programmers come in different levels:
      --dangerous, stay away
      --crappy, possibly risky, maybe criminal
      --poor
      --barely useful
      --not bad
      --pretty good
      --good
      --very good
      --excellent

Nasty. I've had some ugly stuff happen with some plugins but not as nasty as that. Ouch.

I have to take some of the blame. I do back up,but not as often as I should. My last backup was in December when this happened and this happened in April or May I believe.
But I have to say the best money Ive spent was for the external Hard drive and my Storagecraft Shadow Protect Desktop backup solution. It is without a doubt the best backup software I have ever seen.

No reinstalling drivers, no reinstalling Windows PIDs ,you just do the retore and everything works perfectly. And it also has what they call a HIR which stands for Hardware Independent Restore which basically means you can get a new machine and retore the back up to it and it will work. I have to admit I haven't tried that feature yet,but one day.........
