Steve, totally different circumstances, but this reminds me of Rogers!

I signed on with them for high-speed internet. They have no problem taking my money for this, yet I am unable to open an account as they say there is another username associated with the account.

I'm livid over this - can't even begin to count the hours I have spent on the phone trying to get a human being on the other end - all to no avail. I am unable to email them, as it's just an autoresponder.

I'm on a plan, yet am unable to see my usage, nor do I have access to my spam folder.

A few nights back, I called them again and was put on hold as usual. I switched from speaker phone to regular and went to bed.

I got up about 5 hours later to put wood in the fireplace, checked the phone expecting a dial tone or nothing.....there was good ole Rogers still letting me know they had a high volume of calls and to continue waiting as "my call is important". Give me a break.

I'm almost to the point of contacting the Ombudsman. I registered this in December and I still am unable to speak with a human. Dang, I hate the menus they put you through (without getting any satisfaction), plus the fact that they make it so difficult (near impossible) to speak with someone.

Sorry - end of rant, lol!

I dare any of you to call Rogers!!! If you do get the opportunity to speak with anyone, please ask them to call me or send me an email!

Kim, they gave me this number for the Rocket Hub (this is what I have) 1-866-327-1224. This was the only number where I was able to talk to a human, only to be informed that this number was for the film cew.

This is the number I've been trying 1-877-343-5745 (toll free numbers).

Rogers is a very large company here.

Side note: Had a call from a neighbor who lives out west (Alberta), but has a cottage here. He has the Roger's Stick and has an active account. He tried to change over to the Hub (same thing that I have) and was told the Hub was no longer available.

Even he tried to get somebody in management to contact the Toronto office regarding my situation.

I also have another person trying to help out and get this mess straightened out. Nothing is working.

Bottom line - I'm screwed at the moment as I'm tied into this contact until Feb 2013.

Jody - is the reason you put up with this that they have a monopoly in your area? In other words you have to use Rogers or not have service?

Because if there is any other viable alternative, long about January 1 I would have filed a dispute with my bank to get my money refunded.

If there is no other service by all means contact the Ombudsman. Please. (and maybe still the bank since you are not getting the services you have paid for and are entitled to a refund.

This is driving me crazy and I just read it 5 minutes ago!

You have 'the patience of a saint'.

Patrician, I'm running out of patience very quickly. Even my poor ole dog relocates to another area of the house when she hears me on the phone talking about this

You are correct, I only have two choices for high-speed - the other one being Bell Canada whom I refuse to do any more business with. I have told them that I will be fee of them as soon as I can get phone service with another company. That is not available here at this time.

Bell has had a monopoly on telephone and internet right from the get-go. They simply sell time now.

This has been so frustrating. I'd gladly go back to my dial-up at 24.0 kbps (slower than a turtle), as their Customer Service was excellent the very few times I needed to use it. I'm stuck with a contract now - something I always advised against - yet I took a chance, all the while ignoring my own advise.

I sent Kim a pm - will be interesting to see if he can make any head-way with these idiots.

There is a very similar story in Ireland

BBC News - The mystery of Ireland's worst driver

"Details of how police in the Irish Republic finally caught up with the country's most reckless driver have emerged, the Irish Times reports.
He had been wanted from counties Cork to Cavan after racking up scores of speeding tickets and parking fines.
However, each time the serial offender was stopped he managed to evade justice by giving a different address.
But then his cover was blown.
It was discovered that the man every member of the Irish police's rank and file had been looking for - a Mr Prawo Jazdy - wasn't exactly the sort of prized villain whose apprehension leads to an officer winning an award.
In fact he wasn't even human.
"Prawo Jazdy is actually the Polish for driving licence and not the first and surname on the licence," read a letter from June 2007 from an officer working within the Garda's traffic division.
"Having noticed this, I decided to check and see how many times officers have made this mistake."

With things like cable and phone, you HAVE to have a monopoly. EVEN in cases, like currently in the us, when they "aren't monopolies", the MAIN carrier provisions and handles a lot of the details for the OTHER. In fact, I did some work for Frontier at once. They are a super regional carrier in the US. MY job was handling three data warehouses. Their purpose?

    1. Retail....Going to most customers buying service from THEM!
    2. Select.... large companies and the like buying service from THEM!
    3. WHOLESALE!!!!!!!... For their COMPETITORS!

It is the same type of deal that we have with .com domain names! A guy from NIGERIA could buy from godaddy, but the actual end procesing is done by network solutions.

My father had to deal with comcast. You know what HE did? He informed them that his wife's business is BUILDING GOOD reputations! He said she could TEAR DOWN a reputation just as well!

BTW Jody, AT&T used to be called BELL! In fact its name PRIOR to the breakup was "MA BELL". The resulting companies AFTER the breakup are called "Baby bells"!

    Baby Bells Definition | Investopedia

Of course, they STILL had a LOCK on the market. Another lawsuit brook THAT lock. That same kind of lawsuit happened with network solutions in 1999, by the way. Anyway, they Bells became known as ILECs(INCUMBENT Local exchange carriers), and the rest are called CLECs(COMPETITIVE...).

    I wish you LUCK Jody!

    Derek,

WOW! When I investigated going to europe, I found that I had to get a special driver's license from the automobile club, called an international drivers license. I happen to STILL have it! IT has text in:

    English
    Spanish
    Greek
    Italian
    Chinese
    Arabic
    French
    Norwegian
    German

It actually has 12 pages of text, and each language gets its own page. BTW I got that license 23 YEARS ago. You would think that, even if they allowed the drivers licenses to be used in different countries, they would have standard languages. For western europe, English, German, and French cover a LOT of territory. Polish isn't like ANY of the above languages. If someone knew even all the languages that I listed for that international drivers license, they would STILL have trouble understanding polish, though they would probably not find any western european language to be difficult. I DID get it for western europe. If I got it for eastern europe, it might have had russian and polish as well.

Steve, I am not sure at all whether you really need to get an International Driver's license to go to Europe, especially for short stays. I have used my Hong Kong license to rent cars in Europe and Thailand. It can also be used for a short time in Canada. Although I have got British and Canadian licenses as well. There was a big fuss about allowing people with British licenses to drive in Hong Kong. The reason was that there was no photo attached to the license. This could be why many countries would prefer an International license.

Well, that was what I was told. It may have been true then, or may have been true only for americans, or who knows. I WAS FLOORED(EXTREMELY ASTONISHED) that chinese and arabic were there! Of course norwegian is odd also, since it is understood reasonably well by only people in scandinavia, and they likely understand english, german, or french.

You have to realize that I never traveled to countries outside of america before, and the travel agent I dealt with didn't even know how to get to aarhus!!!!!! It was a good thing my danish aunt could explain it.

I don't know about other countries, or even other STATES in this regard, but California has ID cards! You get them at the DMV(where you would get a license), etc... but they are ***NOT*** licenses. In fact, if you could get a passport, it is pretty much CERTAIN you could get the less informative ID card.

FURTHER, drivers licenses vary from state to state. Last I knew, there were NO standards. So it is a lot to expect foreigners to weed out even some obvious forgeries.

    Speaking of local monopolies...

Imagine if the local power companies were not highly regulated by the local govs.

I'm sure our power bills would be at least twice as high as they are now if the local govs took a hands off approach.

In my local area the power companies have to go through a whole song and dance just to request a rate increase.

    Now that's smart local government.

Pretty much the same here TL with a little exception.
We have a delivery charge here that is as high or higher then the actual electricity used charge
For example my last electric bill was $235. Of that $100 was for the electricity I used and $125 was for the delivery charge. The other $10 was taxes and surcharges.

Sorry, I thought Washington, D.C. meant "Washington, D.C. USA". It certainly LOOKS like it. And it was an area that was SUPOSED to be set aside for the federal government. THAT is why it is called a district, and covers 3 states.

Local regulations don't lower prices. There are some HERE that operate in a different way, and have LOWER prices. Enron was a special case because they broke FEDERAL LAWS in place for about EIGHTY YEARS that have *****NOTHING****** to do with power, etc....(They had to do with investing, and monopolies) to cause rates to skyrocket which ITSELF broke laws going back HUNDREDS of years(Contract law, among others)! SERIOUSLY, they existed before this country ITSELF! They have those SAME type of laws in Great Britain, all of europe, japan, korea, and probably CHINA!

I guess we can only GUESS as to why measures put into place DECADES ago didn't get the company shut down, fined, and the major players banned and thrown in jail. Heck one ****MINOR**** example(insider trading) was once broken by martha stewart, and SHE ended up in jail. Madoff was thrown in jail for some similar problems(contract law, which is essentally why ponzi schemes are illegal). At least with Madoff, there was no way to track it, so the delay in HIS case made sense.

BTW I never DID see my post post! I figured it was LOST, and I didn't try to redo it. It FINALLY showed up amid yours!

The District Of Columbia (DC) is where the U.S. federal gov resides.

The DC that had the silly situation with the tickets is a different entity altogether.

The federal gov has nothing to do with those tickets.

That is a function of the District Of Columbia city government which elects a mayor and city councilmen etc.

The feds have nothing to do with the running of the city except there is some congressional oversight - but they pretty much let DC run itself.

But I'm sure most all of us can agree that the feds have done and are doing lots of stuff that ain't smart.

To get that technical The Discrict Of Columbia aka Washington DC is the seat of our federal government. It is where the majority of the federal institutions reside.
        From Wiki:
Washington, D.C., formally the District of Columbia and commonly referred to as Washington, "the District", or simply D.C., is the capital of the United States. On July 16, 1790, the United States Congress approved the creation of a federal district to become the national capital as permitted by the U.S. Constitution. The District is therefore not a part of any U.S. state. It was formed from land along the Potomac River donated by the states of Maryland and Virginia; however, the Virginia portion was returned by Congress in 1846.
A new capital city named after George Washington was founded in 1791 to the east of the preexisting port of Georgetown. Congress consolidated the City of Washington, Georgetown, and the remaining unincorporated area within the District under a single municipal government in 1871. The city shares its name with the U.S. state of Washington, located on the country's Pacific coast.
Washington, D.C., had an estimated population of 617,996 in 2011. The city was the 24th most populous place in the United States as of 2010. Commuters from the surrounding Maryland and Virginia suburbs raise the city's population to over one million during the workweek. The Washington Metropolitan Area, of which the District is a part, has a population of nearly 5.6 million, the seventh-largest metropolitan area in the country.
The centers of all three branches of the federal government of the United States are located in the District, as are many of the nation's monuments and museums. Washington, D.C., hosts 176 foreign embassies as well as the headquarters of the World Bank, the International Monetary Fund (IMF), the Organization of American States (OAS), the Inter-American Development Bank, and the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO). The headquarters of many other institutions such as trade unions, non-profit organizations, lobbying groups, and professional associations are also located in the city.
The District is governed by a locally elected mayor and 13-member city council. However, the United States Congress has supreme authority over the city and may overturn local laws. Residents therefore have less self-governance than residents of the U.S. states. The District has a non-voting, at-large Congressional delegate, but no senators. D.C. residents could not vote in presidential elections until the ratification of the Twenty-third Amendment to the United States Constitution in 1961.

When I bought my first house I had to join an electric coop. the rates were probably reasonable. After selling my house back in 1999,I still get a dividend check from them every year. They are a lot,but they do come in handy.
Moving to where I am now I have to use the state controlled power company.
Monthly bills and fees are out of control and even though I was on dialysis (aka life support equipment) Numerous times they threatened to come pull my meter when I got behind.

On the subject of this thread - have to wonder why the plate was issued in the first place - and why the man insists on keeping it despite the problems.

To me, this seems like a total waste of time for both the person having to argue the tickets - and for govt workers having to deal with him. They should revoke the plate and end it.

I had that thought also Kay.
Here in NY that wouldn't of happened.
Here we have specific guidelines and your request is reviewed by a person who checks it for profanity or anything else that may cause a problem.
Sometimes they will request an explanation of what your requested plate means.

Why shoulld HE go to the trouble? As I understand it, they often ask you to explain it AND, if it is reasonable, they give it to you. A MORONIC error in THEIR thought shouldn't cause HIM grief. If it were offically permitted, that would mean ANYTHING could lead to the problem. That means they would be worthless, and the government should simply GET RID of the registration. HECK, I was once told that my tags had an APB out! I planned for WEEKS to change them, but it is a huge expense, a lot of trouble, etc... I am generally NEVER here when I must do it. I eventually decided against it.

I GUESS someone could have picked MY car out of HUNDREDS and in a moderately secure, and probably videoed area with NO idea as to when I would be back, and used my plates.

That is LUDICROUS and DANGEROUS and STILL the police didn't have the right type of car with the APB!

Washington DC is treated as a city, but it really IS a district. It IS allowed to grow, to a certain degree, and shrink. It is actually outlined in the constitution. It was supposed to be for the FEDERAL GOVERNMENT! Look at wikipedia. Washington, D.C. - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia. AND, in part, it says:

The District is governed by a locally elected mayor and 13-member city council. However, the United States Congress has supreme authority over the city and may overturn local laws. Residents therefore have less self-governance than residents of the U.S. states. The District has a non-voting, at-large Congressional delegate, but no senators. D.C. residents could not vote in presidential elections until the ratification of the Twenty-third Amendment to the United States Constitution in 1961.
AND, though in many areas they say city, they call it a federal district.

Look up sacramento, ca CAPITAL city of california, and it just says CITY!

    washington DC:

    Population (2011 estimate)[1][2]
    • Federal district
    617,996 (24th in

    sacramento:
    Population (2010)
    • City
    466,488

Kim, you're not going to believe this, but I'm still having problems. I thought all was resolved - NOT. I now have an online account that I can see though lol.

How many people on high-speed internet here are being charged for text messaging???? I'm being charged - apparently it doesn't matter whether you have a cell phone or not. The billing dept. won't credit me as they figure I can do text messaging as long as I know what I'm doing through the computer.

I have no way of accessing my spam folder. Makes me apprehensive about doing much as I have no control over filtering, nor access to the folder itself.

I'm too tired to go through another 4-? hour long conversation - providing I'm even able to speak with a live being. I highly doubt the odds are in my favor as it's the beginning of a long weekend. Don't forget, Monday is Family Day!

I have cancelled automatic payments - they are screwing me left, right, and center. My cost since Dec. 24 - Feb. 23 (that's 2 months @ 3 GB per month) is $225.32. The billing department told me today I didn't even use my allotted 3GB per month - that was so great to hear  as I don't have the option nor the privaledge of seeing my usage even now that I have an online account set up.

Since I personally don't own a gun, I'm about ready to find somebody that does, and they can blow the **** out of this HUB. I've about had it with Rogers and their so-call high-speed internet. I swear half the time this is just as slow, if not slower than my dial-up. Dial-up here is 24.0 kbps.

Pardon my language, but this just pisses me off that a company as large as these assholes, can get away with such piss poor customer service - and the fact that it is near impossible to get and speak with a live human being.

I spoke with 9 different employees today, plus 2 chat sessions on the internet - that wasted more than half my day - of which I let them know, was costing me money. I still have yet to have everything resolved.

@ Paul Myers - BTW, there's not a brand of scotch on the market strong enough to make this a "chuckle" let-a-lone a "laughing" matter. :p Can you suggest anything else?

@ Kim - thanks again for your help.

@ Steve - sorry for hijacking your thread!

        You're APOLOGIZING?

I actually sort of PLANNED this! THAT is why I had a general title, and a short post. So you're in canada. Otherwise, just what I had hoped. So you didn't hijack ANYTHING!

I'm sorry to hear about your plight. I KNOW how bad it can be. I HATE talking on the phone! And people twist your words, remove key phrases, etc... They may wait a day, ask for something, wait a few days, ask for something else, and then you find that they were trying to solve a problem you could solve in the blink of an eye, but it was NOT what you asked them to solve! You then work around it, and they call you back a week later to see if you were satisfied.

I have told over a half dozen companies...."You're KIDDING, RIGHT? You KNOW you didn't do ANYTHING, and call a week later to ask if I am satisfied? HECK NO! I am THIS close to telling the customer that they shouldn't even pay for your support!!!!!".

I ESPECIALLY love when something won't install, and they INSIST that you give them the log created when you run a process with the product. HEY GUY! I am trying to install it so I can configure it, so I can run stuff, and ****THAT**** is when it creates those logs! Get THIS problem fixed, and maybe we can get logs LATER!

Well, here in the states they have to keep records of text messages.Tell them to prove you've sent a single one.
I thought it was all straight too,but I'd be happy to call again. I don't think a single one of them enjoyed talking to me.
I don't know how far back you can dispute your cc charges, and I haven't in a while but it used to be about 90 days. First I'd tell them if it isn't resolved in 24 hours that' exactly what your going to do,then do it.
We have at least got the ball rolling for you, let's keep the pressure on till they have it right.
Also let them know your are going to contact your local representative if its not resolved in 24 hours. And again be prepared to do it.
I had an issue that I told a large corporation that if they didn't respond that was what I was going to do,and they ignored me.The next day I contacted my congressman, FAXed him over a paper giving him the authority to look into the situation and within hours I was getting a call from the office of the corporations President.
And last but not least, here in the states we have a lot of local TV stations that LOVE to jump on these type of "human interest /big guy beating up little guy" stories that could end up with then sttioned outside the Rogers HQ. Its a thought.
Anyways, anything else I can do to help, let me know.

Thanks Kim. Here in Canada, it's not as easy to contact and get members of Parliament involved - I know this for fact as my uncle is involved and is great friends with Jean Chrétien. I on the other hand, absolutely hate each and every one of the dumb pricks!

I must say, my uncle and I do enjoy a few drinks together along with some intense political debate when we do get together, but that's not very often due to his schedule (thank goodness)!

I don't call on him for favors, as I don't do that with anyone. I have been used to fighting my own battles and will continue til I can't do it any more.

The Ombudsman will be the next route - this will be dependent upon the final results I receive from them next week. After the phone call from Rogers this afternoon, I do believe I will indeed need to contact them.

Kim has a good point! In the US, we have the PUC, Public Utility Commission. You can tell them you will call the equivalent of that and the AG and the FTC. The equivalent of the FCC might be interested ALSO! I had a problem with he said, she said, in one case. I swear, I might end up doing that OFTEN! You see, HE was a representative of this medical device company. SHE was a representative of the FDA! When HE told me that SHE asked for a recall, I spoke with HER, and she said she DIDN'T. I told HIM she said she didn't, and the next thing you know, HE is in trouble, and GAVE UP!

If HE made HER too mad, SHE could have basically shut down a HUGE chunk of their US operations and potentially confiscated all US stock and fined them. If I failed, I would end up where I was and basically in danger of going out of my range, but success meant a bit over a year of not having to worry, so I REALLY pestered them.

Thanks Steve . I've been trying to quote you, but something is intervening and not allowing me to do so. Basically, I simply made a correlation between your OP and my situation with Rogers.

My problem, has been not being able to talk to a human being, plain and simple. The few times I was able to they didn't send me any confirmation, thus every time I spoke with an employee - I had to explain everything that have transpired right from day one.

Today - I went through 9 different people. I had to explain the exact same thing to each and every one of them. Not one department knows whats someone in another department has said, decided, or changed. It's utter B.S.

I can't count the hours I've spent on the phone trying to get somebody to resolve this. I wish I could sue them for the money it's cost me.

Kinda funny how things can happen regardless if it's a plate or an account number! God help me if I ever have to appear before a Judge. I will always speak the truth, I just may raise my voice a tad too high.
