Dog & Stepfather Stories: Bad, Good

That's what I was talking about in another thread. Dogs respect and guard the members of their pack. A few-day-old baby,which this one was - had not been accepted as a pack member yet. In the dog's mind, the baby may have been viewed as a threat to the other child or parents. A new baby doesn't smell like the family, makes sudden movements and noises and it's likely the dog was confused. I feel for those people - what a terrible thing to happen. I do notice it says "bite" rather than "maul" but for a wee one, it didn't matter.

It's a sad story and I'm sure the circumstances were unusual and accidental - because owning multiple dogs and knowing your dogs means you understand dog behavior. Someone made a critical error in this case. With such a small baby - it only takes one mistake.

What it shows is for every bad news item - there's a good one. It's life as we live it.

Have to add - in the second dog story - I sure hope someone took in the mama dog and her puppies. She deserves a good home.
