what do you get excited about when Spring hits?

At my house, hubby starts talking about all things racing.

I tease him and tell him when it comes to his dragster, he is totally obsessive compulsive, lol!

Don't get me wrong, I like the drag racing circuit and enjoy the camaraderie of all the racers, but man, come springtime, his mind is gone.

I don't quite get it.

    First, wow, nice car
Myself mostly it's my motorcycle that gets me itching for spring.
But this winter has been so mild that getting my garden(s) planted has got me super excited.
I've been working on cleaning my rear fence line up for the last couple of weeks and plan on standing the fence back up and re-establishing the concord grapes that are there.
My vegetable seed order was shipped today so when it arrives I'll go through everything and figure out what I need to start indoors and when.
I've got a couple other outside projects lined up I'm excited to get started on. But mostly it's getting out and playing with plants in the dirt

Well, I can't argue that it is a nice car, she's mean looking for sure.

Here's one of it in action.

But see, that's the thing Thom.

There's no place I'd rather be than working in my flower beds and gardens, but I don't have gardening on the brain, lol!

Maybe I'll never know what it is exactly because I'm not allowed to even drive his dragster up to the staging lanes.

Gardening is an old passion of mine that has been on the back burner for to many years. Last year was the first time in a good 19 years that I made a somewhat serious attempt at a veggie garden. It also happened to be a year where there was an abundance of woodchucks around.
They ate well, I did not
So this year there will be a war and I will win

        Almost forgot.
I don't think I could drive that to the start line, so if you get a chance have fun.

Haha, I would if I could, he won't let me. I've told him I want to race too and in practice I always have a better reaction time on the tree. I think he's afraid that if he gives me an inch, I'll want to take a mile and beat him in the quarter mile too!

I had the same problem with deer and last year was the first year I won!

We found this all natural stuff to spray on the plants and vege's and it keeps them away.

Problem is, the day you spray, you better have all the doors and windows shut or P U! After that, it fades from our olfactories but not from theirs.

Hi, Terra. Your hubby's got a cool car, no question about that! I've never raced one, but I would take the training and do it if I got the chance...

. . . and nothing else would be on my mind throughout the experience! lol How COULD a person be thinking about anything else when that mean machine is calling out to you?

To answer your question, I am NOT a winter person, so I just get excited about spring, period. I love sunny days, blue skies, warm, dry weather and the joy of not wearing winter-proof clothing.

Thanks GT, as I said, I love going racing with him and support him at every race.

He even puts me to work, lol!

In the staging lanes I help him get all strapped in, then when it's his turn, I guide him into the water box, stopping just about a foot out so he can do a good burnout.

When he does his burnout, I check for any leaks before he stages and either give him a thumbs up, or tell him to kill the engine if there's a leak.

After the race, I get his time slip for him while he goes back to the pits, I like the white ones, the yellows, not so much as it means he lost, haha!

Actually, it's not work at all, it is fun.

I guess I've never experienced a thrill to that degree to keep me so occupied.

Anyway, I'm with you on the spring part! Shed the sweaters and Silkies(long johns for ladies)! Bring on the warmth of the sun!

Terra, you tell hubby that a "weiner dog" would be the perfect mascot to escort that mean machine to the start line!

      I think I'll try it!

After all, our best racing buddy brings his two dogs to the track with him and one's a Lab, the other is a German Shepard.

How much less space a miniature weiner dog would take, why I could even have a tote to carry her/him in that has his B&T Racing logo on it...Free advertising! Haha!

It is a nice car. That wouldn't charge me over spring though. You know me, Terra -- spring comes, snow melts and there are great agates, petrified wood, jasper, and crystals all over the place and that charges me to no end. Nothing more fun than running around the wild country loading a back pack down with natural wonders.

I just got home...You'd think it was a blizzard outside, but it's not snowing. There's snow on the ground though, and a 30-40 MPH wind blowing all that snow.

The thing I look most foreward to is not having to plan trips out of the house around the weather.

I hate snow. High heat isn't good either, but at least you don't have to shovel heat.

Well, I suppose I should share what gets me excited about Spring and no, it's not drag racing. Haha!

        It's just simply Spring itself.

Nothing beats relaxing in my lounge chair out on the back deck and feeling the sun warm me as it dances along my face, arms and legs. Or listening to the wind rustling through the three hundred foot tall pines that line the back of the property. The sound it creates simulating a mighty rushing waterfall that has been there since the beginning of time. And when I close my eyes, I can picture in my mind's eye, standing at the top and feeling the awe of it's majestic power as I am lulled further into relaxation.

Then noticing the birds all atwitter, singing their melodies as they too celebrate the great advent of Spring. Watching them flit through the flowering tree branches bearing their virgin green leaves and weighted down with buds waiting to explode with vibrant color. Mixed in with the occasional call of a frog hiding amongst the greenery of the vast array of rainbow colored flowers in various sized pots, decorating the deck.

As well as watching the occasional butterfly land on one of those flowers slowly waving its delicate wings up and down to soak up the solar power of the sun.

Then there are the delectable scents of early spring blooms carried to me on the gentle breeze. The perfume filled air weaving around me and possessing the same qualities as a muscle relaxing pharmaceutical but without the nasty side effects.

Ahh, the great outdoors in Springtime! This is what I get excited about, my friends.

What do I get excited about at this my favourite time of the year, springtime?

For a big 6'6" guy lol, flowers coming into bloom here in Cornwall, UK.

First the pink camelias and the snowdrops. Seeing the first daffodils come into flower, the crocuses, the first shoots of green on the apple tree in the garden, the first rhodedendrons coming into flower a beautiful deep stunning red colour, just amazing. Bluebells starting in about 3-4 weeks time, carpeting the meadows and woodlands.

Birdsong as soon as I open the window at 6am in the morning. (7 minutes time, I can hear them already, sounds just gorgeous).

Seeing the sun rising higher in the sky, the first real warmth of the suns rays catching your face as you take a walk on the beach with the ocean waves crashing close by.

The early morning and early evening sea fog rolling in like tentacles spreading ethereal fingers up the flooded river valleys.

Getting the boats ready for the season ahead, seeing people smiling once more as they look forward to the long hazy summer days and festivals.

Definitely my favourite time of the year.

This is where I was born incidentally - The Magical Gardens of Trebah - The Garden of Dreams, it's rated as one of the top 80 paradise gardens worldwide, a sub tropical ravine garden tumbling down to Daphne du Maurier's Helford River home of the famous novel Frenchman's Creek...

trebah garden - Google Search (Very beautiful). My very first memories are of playing in this garden (late 1960's) before it was opened to the public.

        Kindest regards,

In Melbourne it is not uncommon to experience all four seasons in one day. Earlier today it was summer (Despite forecasts for heavy raining) and now at this point in time it is spring (Cool)

It can get confusing real fast as to which season of the year we are meant to be in.
