Dummy Minute-How do I thank someone on a thread

I know this is a dummy question but I honestly don't know how you just thank someone on a thread without writing a reply. Just the thank you like I see on some of the threads.

Thanks ahead of time for helping this old grandma out.

      There will be a "thanks" button - but you won't see it on your screen until you've made a certain number of posts -5 or 10, can't remember which it is.

        Thank you, that explains why I don't have one. At least now I can quit looking for it and just post a regular thankyou.
