PERTH - An SAS trooper collecting toys for children was stabbed when he helped
stop a suspected shoplifter in east Perth.

The 'Toys-R-Us' Store Manager told 'The West Australian' that man was seen on
surveillance cameras last Friday putting a laptop under his jacket at the store.

When confronted, the man became irate, knocked down an employee, pulled a knife
and ran toward the door.

Outside were four SAS Troopers collecting toys for the "Toys For Tots" program.

Smith said the Troopers stopped the man, but he stabbed one of them, in the back.
The cut did not appear to be severe.

The suspect was transported by ambulance to the Royal Perth Hospital with two
broken arms, a broken leg, possible broken ribs, multiple contusions and assorted
lacerations including a broken nose and jaw...

Injuries he apparently sustained when he tripped whilst trying to run after the stabbing.

I am sure he "tripped" over an SAS trooper or two. He is lucky to be alive!

  • Stupid bugger should be glad he didn't run into traffic...he could have gotten hurt -

It kind of reminds me (no one tripped) of a time I was coming out of a Grocery, and police were arresting two people for shoplifting. The Police were having a food drive in front of the store! There must have been 5 or more cops (in uniform) standing right outside the door...what - they didn't see them going in?

What identifying characteristics do you think people entering a store with intention to shoplift share, that the police outside were so stupid not to have noticed?

I don't know, but if it were me....I'd be pretty suspicious of a guy that walked in with a big mass of pipe cleaners piled on his head trying to act "normal"...

It wasn't that I was implying the police should have recognized them, it's that the shoplifters should have seen all the police by the door...and taken heed -
ie: probably not a good place to try to shoplift...

Not entirely improbable but it is a story that has been around before.

This one is true though. Around 20 years ago a mugger in Bracknell attacked a tie and blazer wearing Asian man.

          Chap was a Ghurka.

          Short fight!

And do you remember when some thief stole someones stuff at a Spanish Airport a few years ago and it turned out to be the US Athletics team?

I think they caught him in around 3 seconds from a standing start facing the wrong way!

I wouldn't expect anything more that sheer lies from the press and this certainly is no exception.

We'd certainly be clumsy to believe this.
