      I'm saddened.

Watching The Monkees was a Saturday staple for me growing up and Davy was the subject of a poster on my older sister's wall.

      May he RIP!

There was a time during the 1960s when the popularity of The Monkees rivalled that of The Beatles in school playgrounds across Britain due, almost entirely, to their TV shows.

RIP Davy. But for me, his legacy won't be a musical one. At least not directly.

It was because of Davy's fame at the time that another promising young British singer/songwriter, also called David Jones, was advised to change his name.

He took that advice and chose the name David Bowie.

Just as well, I think. Calling his son Zones Jones wouldn't really have worked.

I had loads of fun watching that version too, except I did it without any kids by my side.

I love that song by the way, at least we still have their music to cherish.

  • Funny but sad - I didn't want poor Davy to die a thousand deaths...

But now with the forum glitch*(I initially thought it was my computer)...there are like 5 identical posts from me on the same story...

Sorry Davy - *this is just the kind of trouble you used to get into every week on TV - those things that made you endearing to people...

RIP Mate - (I'll think about you whenever "My shavin' razor's cold, and it stings...")

*apologies to all - now I have to figure out a quick way to get rid of identical threads...

  • This a Documentary I thought some of you might enjoy seeing...Making The Monkees:

In 1966, two aspiring filmmakers cast four young actors in a low budget TV series about a fictional band. By 1967, they were the biggest pop music act in the world with record sales that topped "The Beatles" and Elvis Presley combined.

Yep, I was a big fan of the Monkees, too! The TV shows were hilarious and entertaining and ... Surprise! ... the music was GOOD! Many Monkees tunes have become classic faves.

R.I.P., Davy Jones. You made your mark and it was appreciated by many.

Ah this makes me sad. I was one of the youth that loved watching their show. Not many of my crowd admitted to liking the music in those days - we were way too kewl for music that came from a tv comedy band - but secretly we all did like them.

    RIP Davy.
