How do you motivate yourself?

Boy I am sure in need of some motivation now.

I think it's important for all of us to be motivated, especially when results aren't showing yet.

For me, I just take a step back and remind myself why I am doing what I am doing. I also read up online for other inspiration posts.

You?

Watch this and ask yourself - How bad do you want success? You have to work harder than other people. You have an opportunity to make a dream become reality, and the only thing standing in your way is yourself. Make it happen.

It's made for sports, but the speech should be enough to get you out of bed, and make you get to work.

"When you want to be successful as badly as you want to breathe, only then you will be successful."

    Good Luck!

Think about what motivates you... Human nature tells me it's probably money so think about the medium and long term results of whatever you're working on.

Just ask yourself 'why' you are doing what you are doing, this should keep you spurred on to reach your goal, if you 'why' is'nt big enough the 'how' won't matter...

    Hope this helps

Ditto on what Kevin is sayin' here.

Ex: If you have $3,000 worth of bills on your plate and things seem dismal (at least for the short term), it's important (for me, anyway) to at least plant a really fun thing I want to have happen (or buy) alongside those bills in order to make the work more fun along the way.

What do you want to work for? bills? or a really fun goodie? (You're supposed to say "the goodie"!) ...

And if the goodie is big enough... and if there are little goodies along the way .... then you should feel uber-good and motivated to go get the things that make you feel good!

My example: Recently, I had some stuff I was working on that was just kicking my ass in the way of me feeling just overwhelmed. It would have been easy to get bummed and mentally paralyzed with all that I had in the works.

I want a different house. I don't want just any house (that would feel like just another f'n bill if it isn't what I really want.)

So in November, I set a goal to get "X" done and I'd go spring for the new iPhone (64gb 4s model - no screwing around here! lol) ....

And the next month, I popped for the $130 Bose earbuds I've been wanting.

Both months my income grew significantly... and life is getting easier and easier.

Point is... reverse engineer the crap ya gotta do but make sure there are some small little treats in there for you so that you can feel really good about your progress. I enjoy having that phone and earbuds... and besides enjoying the use of them, they are like little trophies that are with me all day as I work towards current goals.

I know diamonds and clothes turn other women on... but I'm almost always good with a new toy.

I'm moving into a dream house in just a few weeks... so I'm just tellin' ya... make sure your Yellow Brick Road is full of treats along the way while you're looking ahead to the big things that really make your heart sing.

Nobody's got the same things that turn them on... and the goals have to turn YOU on... so figure out what that really, really, really is... and go for it.

What motivates me right now it thinking of the "why". Why am I doing this? Once you focus on the "why" you will do whatever you need to do (as long as it's legal and ethical) to get it.

I guess for successful ones- the motivation would come from looking back at struggling times and for not so successful ones- The fear of continuing to be a failure and the want to get out of it should lift the spirit up.

Same here. Although I do have shiny objects distraction once in a while ...

I strongly believe that if you have trouble getting motivated, you should seriously consider if you are doing the things you want to do. If you're into online money business just to make money, but without interest in the actual type of work being done (e.g. you'd prefer to be a guitarist instead of writing autoresponder messages), I hink you really should look for a different job. Otherwise, you might spend the next 40 years of your working life daily looking for external motivation, instead of enjoying what you do.

And IMHO part of choosing for this line of business, is because it's satisfying or even fun to do it.

Meditate or listen to something inspirational every single morning. Don't give yourself a chance to get off track - systematise your motivation levels.

I think it was Zig Ziglar who said something to the effect of "People say motivation doesn't last. Well, neither does bathing - that's why we recommend it daily."

It can be hard to keep going when it seems like nothing is showing up in the short term. With any long term project or business, it boils down to taking massive action and yet the trick is to be so in love and enveloped by your project that you just put the blinders on to do everything you can and work on the process.

If you find it hard to be immersed in the process then just focus on some benefits or byproducts for accomplishing your task. It can be hard to love what your doing but just associate taking action with the most pleasurable things that you have experienced....It can be anything!

A good quote by Wayne Dyer that really keeps me on path is "Infinite patience produces immediate results." I know it sounds rather paradoxical but if you are patient with yourself and your actions, you will see results. Don't focus on what happened or what will happen just be totally immersed in now which really is the only thing that you have control over!

I meditate, listen to stuff that chills me out, get away from the laptop, go for a walk, spend time with my kids, have fun, chill out, have a coffee - read some Napoloeon Hill, go to the gym, all this motivates me indirectly, by making me FEEL GOOD. When I feel good, I'm motivated - when I don't feel good, I'm not motivated .

Trying to motivate myself to work, when I don't feel like it - just doesn't work for me, if I am not motivated, then trying to motivate myself directly doesn't work, I need to get away from anything "work" related, and get back into that zone where I feel good, and therefore feel like working.

If you don't feel good, you'll find it hard to be productive, so instead of trying to get yourself all fired up, focus on getting yourself to feel as good as possible, even if it means getting up & walking away from your computer, going for a coffee, going for a walk, meditating for 15 mins, going for a run, whatever works for you.

Great answer! I like the idea of feeling good and making yourself feeling good! I agree. I think the feeling of happiness totally works as a motivation itself.

    No offense to you Alden......

But I find it hilarious when people post on the forum about a topic that their signature file supposedly answers.

Like your post about how to find motivation. And your ironic sig file of:

"How to quit your job, find your passion and do what you love every single day! Click here!"

It's not just you. It happens all of the time. People will post about not being able to generate traffic with article marketing and then have a sig file pushing a product on how to generate 1000s of visitors using articles.

There are some great motivational videos posted on this thread I really get frustrated when things don't work out and plans start to fail, I than step aside and indulge in some other activities just to take my mind off and relax myself than I start afresh all pumped up and ready to go again

Also it does sound foolish to alot of people to visualize daily how you see yourself and what you want to achieve but it does work and does help to write down your goals and visualize for 5-10 mins. each day

The easiest way to get myself motivated on a big project is to first break down the project in smaller components and start by just doing things step by step. For example if I know I need to design a new site, it may be a little off putting to think "I'm going to get home from work and design this site." Instead it's better to think "I'm just going to do the header section tonight." Once you get started on the smaller projects you will typically find yourself jumping to the next step and so on.

This is a tactic I learned from a yoga class I took when I was in high school. Tricking yourself into starting any type of work no matter how small will typically result in completing the project once it gets started.
