I will start off with my current favorite styles. I am a big fan of Belgian beers and the styles that I enjoy are:

Lambic, Flanders Red, Saison, Witbier, Pale Ale, Dubbel, Tripel

What about you? Any Belgians in the house?
  • Profile picture of the author Dan Riffle
I'm not Belgian, but I spent some time there. I remember being a big fan of Duvel while I was there. I also enjoyed some good Lambics. I took a tour of a Lambic brewery and spent the afternoon in their tasting room. Good time.

Right now, I'm going through an IPA phase. Really enjoying Dogfish Head's 90 minute IPA and LongHammer's IPA.

I was not into IPA's a few years ago but enjoy them more nowadays. DFH 90 min is great and I have yet to get my hands on DFH 120 min.

I still dont like really hoppy IPA's and prefer those that use less bittering hops and more flavor / aroma hops.

I am jealous about your visit to Belgium. Its on my to do list.

Haven't we drunk ourselves under the table yet on this discussion?

          Haha 3M!

I like Root Beer for a couple of reasons. First of all is because if even if I drink too much, I don't ever do that, lol!

Second of all is that root beer brings back childhood memories of going to the A&W and getting root beer floats on hot summer days, yummm!

Speaking of childhoods, I was that limber when I was younger, I always won the limbo on roller skates contests back then.

Wonder if it was the root beer? Haha!

I can't find the 120 anywhere. I look for it everywhere I go.

Try Longhammer if you can find it. Good stuff.

Belgium is a good time. Nothing like going to one of their awesome Blues bars, sampling all of their fabulous beers, then making a late night stop at Frite World for some Belgian fries. Forget Belgian waffles. Belgian fries are where it's at.

120 min is hard to find anywhere, even in DE.

Did you ever try Sculpin IPA? Thats some tasty stuff.

I used to drink a lot of Heineken but now I think beer makes you kinda tired and gives you a heavy head, so I prefer other kinds of alcohol

I prefer root. Even when I was a teenager, I didn't much care for the alcoholic variety, although I did drink a few now and then.

I think all beer can be recycled. Isn't that what water treatment plants are for?

Dogfish Head 120 is killer, if you can find it, you may blackout if you try finishing two bottles lol. I'm drinking a Smuttynose Big A IPA right now, damn good. I love Dogfish Head, Stone, Rogue, Bells, Avery, Anchor Brewing etc. So many others I don't feel like typing out lol.

very, very, small part of the collection

No Miller, Bud, Corona, Mich, Coors etc nasty piss water beer here lol

That's a pretty fancy recycling bin...

Each one of those is worth a nickel ya know! :p

The only thing beer is good for is washing hair and making New Orleans Onion Soup.

It tastes like cold coffee. Unfortunately, I only like my coffee hot. It is good if you need to gain a few lbs fairly fast, though. If I need to do that I guess Guiness (sp) is gonna be the best as far as taste goes.

New Orleans Onion Soup ?! No beer in there but wine ....

      I found this :
      Creole Onion Soup

This is a New Orleans Cuisine recipe I made tonight to use up some of my Beef Stock that wouldn't fit in the freezer. Creole Onion Soup is very similar to French Onion Soup, except it is creamed at the end. I also don't put a ton of cheese on this soup, instead I float a few Garlic Toasts which are topped with grated Gruyere and Chives, see below. You could certainly pile on the cheese a la French Onion if you prefer. The Recipe:

      Creole Onion Soup Recipe

      3 oz Unsalted Butter ( 3/4 stick)
4 Large Spanish Onions, Thinly Sliced into 1 - 2" Pieces
      2 tsp Granulated Sugar
      1 Tbsp Minced Fresh Garlic
      3 Tbsp Flour
      2 oz. Dry Red Wine
      3 Cups Beef Stock
      2 Tbsp Homemade Worcestershire Sauce
      3 Sprigs Fresh Thyme
      2 Fresh Bay Leaves
      Pinch Cayenne
      Pinch White Pepper
      4 oz Heavy Cream
Kosher Salt and Black Pepper To Taste

My mom called it New Orleans Onion and it wasn't wine - it was BEER. She might have not gotten the name of the stuff right (not unusual for her) - but when you dipped your spoon in and took a bite - you weren't going to waste good eating arguing about the name of the stuff. Trust me on that one!

I usually drink wine, whiskey or vodka. I had a gluten free beer the other day. I tend to like free beers the best. Lolol.

The other night I saw the documentary on NetFlix How Beer Saved The World. Anyone else seen that? It was interesting and entertaining, although I thought that they were probably exaggerating some in some places.
