Anybody else see the Ghost in the Warrior Forum?

OK - this is still happening to me and I have a brand new computer. It happened on my last one too. I have no virus or anything like that but the same thing is happening to me here - and ONLY here.

For example I will be at the OT forum index and I will leave my seat and go make a cup of tea. I will come back and I am now at one of the ads opened up from the ads that run at the top of the forum-

Or in a completely different thread or even forum.

Yesterday I left and I came back to a blank box like I was trying to post in a thread here. I WASN'T.

So, I think there is a ghost - I am not going to get hysterical and change my password or bother Thomas on the Helpdesk to see what IP addresses I am/have logged in from (only mine) as I have done many times when this happens.

I am not going to believe that I made some spastic movement that made me move somewhere I didn't go on purpose.

I find it more likely to believe in ghosts. LOL (not really).

... but it is mysterious.

Anybody else have this condition?

The ghost would probably be in your house, rather than the forum.

    Have fun with that one.

Yeah - I think Dennis is right. The forum has been acting crazy - but not that crazy. Maybe you should consider an Eexcorsist?

My first move would be to scan my computer with TDSSkiller AND Sophos. Between those two programs (both free) if there's a root kit on there, it doesn't stand a chance.

Yah - as I said I have no viruses and have shields, firewalls, routers, secure network, scans, live time updates, etc.

The fact that this is a brand new computer doing the same thing as the old computer which also was scanned daily in live time - I know it is nothing like that.

So much more logical it is in my house. LOL.

... and he only messes with me here in the WF.

At least he is half-way civilized.

I will paper my walls with tin foil just to be safe.

Hey, Pat, just grasping at straws here, but what about your mouse?

I use a wireless mouse and when it starts wearing out it does weird things on me. Although, admittedly, it doesn't select only one particular website to do it.

Oh yeah GT - good point. I always had a cordless mouse and keyboard - (is that what you mean 'wireless'?)

UNTIL now I am corded unfortunately or maybe fortunately. For some reason my new OS (Win7) does not like the old stuff or vice versa. Actually the cordless is not working with any of my 3 PCs - so it must have died the day I got the new PC.

I have other strange things in the wiring here! LOL - like my land line will only work connected directly to the modem (3-way Cable TV, Phone, Internet) - it always worked plugged into the wall - but no more. And it all happened with the new PC but that part is a coincidence I think...

I don't know - some kind of envy or something. I mean I do actually seem to live inside my computer.

Omigod! Maybe I am the ghost!

Well, cordless keyboards and mouses(mice means something different, so...), generally use bluetoothwhich IS often considered wireless, and was created to handle low power, low distance wifi needs.

Your phone WON'T work hooked up to the network unless you have an account. You CAN'T use the modem unless the account is with the company you have the network with. So it would be a different account. If it uses your old line and is not POTS, your wall phone sockets won't work on the same account.

MOST companies that offer broadband VOIP(your modem connected phone) offer it as a REPLACEMENT! It IS possible you had the old line turned off. If you moved the old number, they would have done that for you as well! It doesn't make sense to have a phoneline with no number.

BTW multiple people COULD have the same type of mouse or something. The distance IS limited though. I could SWEAR it was limited to less than 10', but I just had a test on MY mouse, and it works to at least about 20'. It may work farther. It IS possible that someone else has a similar mouse with the same ID, and the systems are getting confused.

Bluetooth is made to be simple and low power, and one of the reasons it has not caught on everywhere AND, indeed, a FEATURE of it, is limited range. So I doubt bluetooth even APPROACHES the 1000' average of wifi. Still, with a 20'+ connection in the corner of an apartment building, you could have TWO apartments that could be causing you grief.

Steve - I didn't change acccounts or numbers - just my computer. In fact it was Comcast who tested the dead phone with me and sent a technician out the next day - the on-the-phone tech said the wall jack died. The on-site tech said leave it plugged in to the modem -and called it a day (no charge)

He did say somebody who DOESN"T use Comcast, (maybe AT&T) had maybe messed up the wiring outside in the box for the building. (too lazy to go see but also thought he was saving me money - which he wasn't as the apartment complex would need to pay them for anything like that).

A week or two later I talked to the guy next door who also had a dead Comcast phone - however he was told that somebody using (AT&T) had been stealing (no account) and had put some gizmo on the wiring outside and his Comcast tech did straighten it out).

I am afraid now to try putting the phone back in the wall because if it is still screwed up I don't want to spend another $28 talking to Comcast on my Verizon cell phone. Yes $28 for 30 minutes. Because I only pay $12. a month and get 30 minutes local - but local means within about 6 blocks I think and would not cover even an 800 number call to Comcast.

(this is the reason I hate having 'bundled' service - when your internet goes down your phone usually goes down at the same time. So it is stupid. The modem is supposed to have a back up battery for 4 hours but it never seems to work when either service goes down (rare) other than the lights stay on.)

Do not have bluetooth - my cordless set was old school LogiTech plain old batteries. 'cordless'

Last I knew, Comcast could do ***NOTHING*** with the wall jacks, for phones or power, and wouldn't even TRY!

He did say somebody who DOESN"T use Comcast, (maybe AT&T) had maybe messed up the wiring outside in the box for the building. (too lazy to go see but also thought he was saving me money - which he wasn't as the apartment complex would need to pay them for anything like that).
It is ****ILLEGAL**** for comcast to go into the phone "point of demarcation". There is nothing they could do. In an apartment, ONE mistake could leave the apartment with NO phones.

A week or two later I talked to the guy next door who also had a dead Comcast phone - however he was told that somebody using (AT&T) had been stealing (no account) and had put some gizmo on the wiring outside and his Comcast tech did straighten it out).
The phone company wouldn't disconnect the cable. They would be found out, have everyone mad, and could be fined and/or put in jail. And comcast wouldn't touch the phones, same reason. Cables CAN be touchy. There are splitters and, in the past, a mistake could lead to snow. Today, a mistake could cause cable modems to fail, as they are touchier than TVs, at least last I knew. NOW, since so much is digital, it may hurt both equally.

I am afraid now to try putting the phone back in the wall because if it is still screwed up I don't want to spend another $28 talking to Comcast on my Verizon cell phone. LOCAL loses meaning with cell phones. I've heard of roaming and not roaming. You could move ONE block and be roaming, and go 1000 miles and NOT be roaming. Basically, roaming means that the first compatible tower is NOT owned by your provider.

(this is the reason I hate having 'bundled' service - when your internet goes down your phone usually goes down at the same time. So it is stupid. The modem is supposed to have a back up battery for 4 hours but it never seems to work when either service goes down (rare) other than the lights stay on.)
Well, MY modem is a generic Motorola. IT, AND the one I got from comcast, did NOT have a battery backup! They DO have you disconnect a LONG time sometimes to make sure it is totally DEAD(capacitors and the like can hold a charge). So WHAT is the LONG time? 10 SECONDS!!!!! Frankly, it disconnects in a fraction of a second. If you want a backup, they have CHEAP ones available now! A small system could be powered for almost 30 minutes by a UPS costing less than $50! Of course, they only provide power on YOUR side. With ME, most cable problems are with THEM!

Do not have bluetooth - my cordless set was old school LogiTech plain old batteries. 'cordless'
My mouse is logitech. Admittedly, it IS new, but they have made these for at LEAST 3 years! Still, they currently only have 2 types, wifi and bluetooth. Either one COULD have the problem I specified. wifi could be WORSE! Instead of having TWO apartments, there could be over 10.

Sometimes I find NotePad Documents open (that I definitely haven't opened myself) and are relevant to what I've been working on. Some of them are years old.

I'm guessing it's some kind of computer glitch or something.

Hmm. Interesting. Now that you mention that, I do recall a discussion I had in a forum somewhere where we were talking about browser speed and computer speed and I commented that the only way my computer could be any faster would be to tell me what I wanted to do or look at before I even knew what it was myself!

That sounds a lot like what you just described! Maybe the computers ARE becoming autonomous!

It couldn't be the mouse or anything else... It has to be a ghost... but no worries, its easy to drive them out... Just say "I command you..." It's in the bible, human as we are, but we have the power to command or drive away spirits...

Maybe the curso thief is hiding somewhere in your computer.

When the guy stops running, place the cursor about an inch above his head. Who knows what all he's capable of!!! :p
