My opinion is that it could based on the discoveries (etc.) of an ancient (yet highly intelligent) civilization of the past.

I'm a rare breed Johnathan, we only come around every 60 years, I'm a Chinese Fire Horse born in December 1966. The previous Fire Horses would have born in 1906.

Sagittarius (astrology) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia (sums me up to a tee).

Every Sagittarius Fire Horse (1966) I speak to and I've known a few, all of us have minds going at a 1000mph with an insatiable appetite for more knowledge. And me, I was born at first light on the first day of winter.

For further info pick up a copy of Linda Goodman's Love Signs book, this describes us very well with all our inherent qualities and goofs and believe you me, there's plenty of them amongst our rare breed.

Famous people who are also Saggitarian Fire Horses born in 1966?

Sinead O'Connor springs to mind with this beautiful, beautiful song...

    Nothing Compares to You

Believe you me, I can feel the pain and suffering in her voice. I think she's a remarkable woman and I love her to bits.

So do I believe in star signs? Most definitely yes.

I guess you could say we're very very old souls, a fact which many people remark upon when they get into a conversation with me.

    Kindest regards,

    Mark

Interesting Mark. I'm a Scorpio myself.

And, while I don't personally believe in the 20-second readings found in newspapers (etc.) because I think they're a sham based on cold reading, when I delved more deeply into Astrology, many of the “predictions/readings” seem to be very accurate.

Something we have in common is an appetite for knowledge. : )

I think having an open mind/not thinking I know it all has helped me in learning more about the World.

Being a Taurus myself, I believe it means a reading after the BS had time to cool off and solidify. Having withstood the test of time, such aged excrement becomes more palatable and easier to swallow.

I'm not 100% certain I understand the question however "cold reading" =

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cold_reading That's basically what I believe many "astrologists" do.

Well, wiki does do a good job of doing a generic description of it. It even uses what it itself defines as the shotgun technique to explain it.

But the description is close enough for me to understand what you are saying, and thats what I was interested in. Thanks.

I wouldn't use the word 'believe' - but I have 'analyzed' it for decades and apart from the BS predictions/fortune telling *******ization of the 'art', I find it to be true.

I look at it from a psychological point of view and the roots of this 'science' of psychology are in fact astrology. I find the characteristics of the various signs to be right on as well as relationships to other signs.

This of course must take into consideration several aspects - not just the sun sign (birth date) but many other factors specific to each chart that may make a person totally different than just a shallow 'you are an X'.

    So yes...

Randi only outs people that claim to have "extra powers". It should be up to those in the "industry" to police their own and not use illusions to claim extraordinary powers.

Uri Geller was a sham, and personally I'm glad Randi exposed Geller and those like him for the liar that he was.

          Kurt,
Randi is a failed magician. First he tried to be an escape artist, ala Houdinini, which he failed at.If you look at his posters from that time in his life they are almost exact copies of Houdini's poster. Then he tried to be a magician, which he had moderate success at,but never made it big as.
If Uri Geller hadn't come along and Randi hadn't been the opportunist,ie,willing to do anything to get the fame he wanted,he would never had become a household word.
As far as only outing people who claim to have powers, his test for those powers are impossible to do,plus he changes his rules depending on the applicant.

I'm no fan of Geller, matter of fact I find most of his appearances humourous, but Geller was a showman, nothing more. He didn't go out and defraud people, he didn't ask for money to use his powers. One thing I do give this generation is they see him for what he is,an entertainer and a show man. Just because there were a lot of people in our generation who were so naive as to think he aas real, well, thats sociatys fault.

PS: No one commented on it but that print I have hanging on my wall is one of only 75 ever made. There is a certificate of authenticity in an envelope on the back.Having it framed would have cost me an arm and a leg but I bartered my services for it.

I'm wondering if anyone can see it? When I clicked the thumbnail to open it up, it opens the lightbox overlay but no picture ever loads. I had that same problem with a thumbnail Thom posted in another thread. I don't know if it's a problem on my end or a forum glitch. Can anyone else see the pic full-sized?

I don't think it's so far fetched to think that the energy we are born under can have an effect on who we are.

That said, though, about the only thing the daily horoscope and most books are good for is entertainment. I did have a chart made once by an expert from the East and it was so accurate and detailed that it was frightening.

Yeah, sorry, the big white spot is the ceiling light.I can's seem to take a picture without that getting in it somewhere.
I don't understand why you both are having problems seeing it though. I click the thumbnail and the lightbox opens and I see it fine. So I don't know either if its computer or forum issue.

I don't know what the deal is, Kim. I tried it in three browserss (IE, FF and Chrome) to see if it was a browser issue but I have the same thing happen in all three. I'm leaning toward it being a forum issue. I don't think it would be my security settings as I can see lightboxes on other sites just fine.

Dennis - I had that issue until I read Terra's post about a new window. Then I tried and it kicked me out to a screen saying I am not logged in to the Warrior Forum.

But then I right clicked BEFORE I did anything else to the image, picked open in a new window and viola! It worked and I saw the pretty blue painting with the white spot! (Chrome)

Couldn't open it either, tried just now.

As for the framing Kim, an arm and a leg to have it framed? Who are you using for your picture framing? They must be ripping you off big time.

I used to run an art gallery many years ago along with a full picture framing studio. In fact I've still got all of my framing equipment in the garage, Morso etc, underpinners, mount (matt) cutters and all the ancilliary equipment.

The moulding wouldn't cost more than a $1 a foot at most. The Pilkington float glass is dirt cheap, the mount the same, the backing board is peanuts and it would take no more than 8 minutes to cut everything to size and put it all together.

At tops you'd be looking at $75 for a 3'x2' picture.

        Kindest regards,

Mark. I'h guessing prices are a lot different here in the US and where you are. And maybe my picture makes it look a lot smaller than it it. I would say it is about 4 feet by 6 feet, maybe larger. Any framer around here would have charged in the hundreds to have done the job.

For $75 around here I could maybe get a 8.5 by 11 inch print framed, I think thats called A4 size over there.

I was lucky in that I did a barter because I got it while I still have my computer shop open and all I basically had to do was set up her stores network for her.

      6'x4'? $125 tops, not a penny more.

And believe you me everything in the UK is at least 4 times MORE expensive than it is in north America Kim.

UK cheap for anything? You must be joking mate. I take it you haven't been here lately?

Example... you guys go on about your 'gasoline' prices? Let me tell you here, it's now £1.37 a litre for petrol (gasoline) and £1.45 a litre for diesel. That's $2.17 and $2.30 a litre respectively.

A pair of jeans I'm looking at £60-70 ($95-$110+) a pair here, it's cheaper for me to order them from the States online for just under £15 ($24) a pair including international shipping.

It wouldn't cost 'hundreds' of dollars to frame this picture of yours, I know this for a fact. If you're being quoted anything over $150 run very fast in the opposite direction. They're simply pulling the wool over your eyes. Having you on.

There's not a lot I don't know about the picture framing industry. My family have been in the business for many decades as a sideline to the antiquarian book, map and print business they're heavily involved in.

It would be easier Kim to do it yourself, it's not difficult.

In fact you could buy everything you needed for less than the amount I mentioned above. Obviously not professional equipment but would do the job for one off picture frames or for an artist working from home.

        I did. I'll explain....

Apparently people don't like Qbert as much as I do, so I thought it would be time for a new avatar. I decided to let the Warrior Forum members choose my avatar.

So... I set up the page linked from my signature with three avatar pictures. One is of the chick you see as my avatar, another is a headshot of a dude, and then a black and white clipart woman.

I just let people click on the link to the page, which randomized the avatars upon each visit. And whenever a person clicked an avatar, it was logged to a database.

Surprise, surprise... most people chose the chick in the bikini over the dude and the clipart woman. And that's the story of my new avatar.

Nobody pays attention to you if you're a Qbert, or a dude, or a clipart women. Hot chicks get all the clicks.

For one, I'd like to say.. That I don't believe in Astrology. Its a half science with some truth to it.. But I'm a firm skeptic when it calms to readings.. Especially when it comes to the Sun Signs.. But mostly.. I think that Horoscopes is one of the biggest marketing scams in the world. Can someone tell me how people's can have "set personalities" based on the days/months (signs) they were born under--that differentiate themselves from people who were born on different sun signs-- based on the way the earth, moon, and starts are aligned in the universe?
And can someone tell me how these damn astrologers got their info? It sounds do divine and laughable to me.. This is not some lame attempt to hate on people who believe in horoscopes.. But I doubt anyone can give me actual scientific research to explain to me why horoscopes can be true. But seriously.. I know people who avoid others based on their "compatibility" from their star signs. This hurts close to home because.. My sister is not very close to my mother, and she actually claims that.. because she is a Pisces, she cannot get along with Aries people, which happens to be the sign my mother was born into.. I overheard her specifically tell my mother she can't get along with her.. BECAUSE OF THAT!!!

Yasir - your birth is supposed to reveal what energies you resonate with. Behind the idea of horoscopes - which is an ancient study - is the idea that the spirit comes to earth to learn and to fulfill a specific function in the spirit's evolution, or becoming. Many of the ancients were extremely absorbed in the philosophies of energy, as well as mathematics. They saw coincidence between the two to the point that in their life practices and their thoughts they were basically the same element. And that is where the idea of horoscopes originated.

I'm assuming that somewhere down the centuries and millennia since the horoscope's creation, most of the keys to many of the intricacies of horoscope calculation have been lost. While I've never seen a modern rendition of a horoscope that fit me all that precisely (most being bizarrely widely interpretable "facts"), I did have a chart done for me once that was intensely and eerily correct, with little room for interpretation, and not many "blanket" statements. The person who bought the chart for me got it from someone in the East somewhere. India? Egypt? Can't remember now. It defied anything I've ever seen called zodiac, though.

Anyway - that should answer your question about what the source of Zodiac is. Whether we have the same animal now or not is debatable. Whether the ancients knew something we don't is also something we can continue to debate and will probably never be able to answer. But then - I prefer the world in color to black and white anyhow.

I think some people like the idea of astrology so they delude themselves into believing it.

My mum believes in them because of certain events in her life but chooses to ignore them when they are wrong, horoscopes are generalized to fit most people too...

I know, I have books on it,been told what software to buy to do it for me and how to promote . I know people,or I should say I am aware of people that have made fortunes by doing just that.
And of course, I posted that picture of the sun Signs that hangs on the wall to my right about 5 feet from where I sit.

But of course, my ethics won't allow me to do it.

          I trust Eben Pagan.
Seeing that soulmatestars.com/ is part of his company, I think it must be genuinely helping people and improving their lives.

Although I think there are many “charlatans” practicing astrology (similar to there are many “scam artists” practicing internet marketing) I think some of them could be the real deal.

No offense Jonathan but you can't have it both ways. You can't think its cold reading but also think its real.Unless I am misunderstanding what your saying, which is why I asked you to give me your meaning of cold reading.

There is a difference between is it real and is it helping someone. There are many out there that really believe that what theya re doing is real. And some actually do give advice that is helpful at times.

As far as Eban Pagan ( is that really his real name? Pagan?) He is what he is. He was certainly the "in" guy for a while I probably shouldn't even admit this but I even watched some of his "wedding".
I do do horoscopes sometimes, but its always for entertainmnet and I tell the person that.
Which is not the same as the post I made which was really sarcastic.

I try never to tell anyone what to believe or not. I tyhink Rush says it well here:

I think (some of it) could be real. And some of it to be hocus.

          Ummm,

I really am not into all of that so I'm not sure...but if star sign means zodiac sign, then I am a Taurus the Bull.

Oh no! Does that mean I'm Terrabull? Haha!

That means you're stubborn and bull-headed. [Edit] Sorry that seemed a bit harsh. Was just having fun. : )

No need to apologize Jonathan, I do believe that's what they say about the Taurus the Bulls, I just prefer to say I'm tenacious.
