AC separation - Shoulder injury

I had some x-rays done today on my left shoulder for pain thats been ongoing for about 4 months. It got to the point where I just wasnt able to lay in bed without discomfort, let alone train at the gym.

After a quick examination of the x-rays, the specialist today said I had separation of the AC joint.

I have a lump on the very top of my left shoulder, and its painful, even when seated, doing nothing.

Ive got to return to my GP for further instructions, but wanted to ask - has anyone else here experienced this injury, and if so, how was it treated?

Looking at the x-ray, I have bones that have shifted about 10-15mm.

Its a bit worrying

This is basically what my x-ray looks like, except its my left shoulder, and not the right, as shown. You can see how the collar bone sits much higher than it should.

Were you squating with a lot of weight, or what? Do you know if this was always like that?

ALSO, it looks like ths is causing some scoliosis. So the good side is that it LOOKS like you don't have ostoarthritis in the spine, but it looks like the shifting of those bones is affecting the spine's alignment, so if you ARE squating and do it with a lot of weight, or SLIP, you could find out what REAL pain is like. You can get what is known as referred pain.

I wish I could help you, but it could even be soft tissue or bone related. There are a lot of possibilities.

And I am not a doctor, but I HAVE seen examples of OA, know what this should look like, etc... Also, between myself and my father, we have had enough problems in that area.

I had the A/C joint in my left shoulder removed about 20 years ago.
It had separated like yours. If I remember right, the doctor removed the joint and reattached the tendons to the bone. So far there hasn't been any problems or restrictions from the removal, but then it's only been 20 years
If I also remember right, surgery isn't normally required unless you separate it really bad.

Thom, Im not sure how bad mine is, but I do have a lump on the top of my shoulder. The x-ray shows definite alignment issues.

Im going to call the doc today to get some form of advice/feedback as to where I go from here.

Not being able to train is doing my head in.
