At Which Point Should I Cancel An Odesk Contract?

I hired a guy from Pakistan to do a job for me. I paid $100 upfront. I can't get the ****er to reply to any of my messages now. I contacted support about the issue and they contacted him. He replied, telling me there is no need to cancel the contract, he is working on it and apologized for not being in touch.
His excuse was that he wasn't in the office.
He contacted me on the weekend asking me for my ftp info. Haven't heard from him since.
Should I cancel the contract? Do I have any chance of getting my $100 back?
Would appreciate any advice from people who have had some experience with Odesk.
