      Good man

i cant stand the taste of coke. so many people say they cant taste a diff,
i don't know whats wrong with them.

quick funny story, as a kid, my mom liked coke, so that's what she stocked the fridge with, when we asked for anything diff, she always said it all tastes the same, so no.

so for years, and years, i thought i did not like soda.... lol

LOL, that is funny because I am a COKE fan and I have always said the same thing as you, in reverse: I can't stand the taste of Pepsi and I could never understand people who said they couldn't tell the difference! lol

Years ago, when Coke introduced NEW Coke ... now THAT horrible stuff tasted EXACTLY like Pepsi to me! lol

As someone mentioned above too, the only time I will drink a Coke is when I have a McDonalds meal and that only happens once every 5 years or so.

The mere thought of drinking any kind of soda makes my teeth ache. It clings to the tongue like a syrup. Nasty stuff. I'd much rather have an ice cold glass of Britta filtered water.

          Britta filters rule!

Exactly! I refused to drink the "new" stuff.

            I don't mind enjoying a Coke/Pepsi every now and again. : )

However, what I found interesting is the blind study conducted where people rated their favourite dink (Coke or Pepsi) and in those blind tests the majority of people chose Pepsi. (For taste.)

However, when they were actually told which drink was “Pepsi” and which dink was “Coke” most people chose “Coke” as their favourite.

The power of branding can be amazing sometimes.

My sister tried that taste test on me many years ago. I knew the difference. To me Pepsi is sweeter and doesn't have as much bite to it. Everybody's taste buds are different though. You're right about the branding. Perception has meaning.

PS - I read a while back that about 50% of the population can't stand the taste of Nutrasweet (Aspertame). My wife thinks it's great. I think it tastes like a dirty old sock. I'm glad I don't like it though, because it's a pretty dangerous ingredient from what I've read. A lot of doctors and nutrition experts don't think it should even be legal.

I prefer Coke. Pepsi is good too, but it's just a little too sweet and doesn't have as much bite to it. If they're changing their recipes I may end up not drinking either one.

I haven't drank soda in a couple of years.
In fact I haven't had a coke or pepsi in probably 8 years.
Now that I think about it, my G.E.R.D. stopped being a problem right around the same time I stopped drinking them.

And you can help your kidneys by not drinking either of them.
Its been shown that if you drink a dark colored soda on a daily basis that you are greatly increasing your risk of having renal failure.

What sort of crazy legislation is this? I would have to question the common sense and even sanity of the Californian department responsible for this advice. I am sure if Coke and Pepsi took them to court the case would be laughed out, and save the companies a great deal of money they will now have to spend to implement this legislation.

FACT: "The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) claims a person would need to drink more than 1,000 cans of Coke or Pepsi a day to take in the same dose of the chemical that was given to the animals in the lab test."

A human would need to drink 1000 cans a day to be at risk! And even that is theoretical because the experiment involved rats!!

But wait a moment.... how much fluid volume is 1000 cans? Here in Europe 3 cans = 1 liter. Therefore 1000 cans = 333 liters.

Drinking 333 liters of any fluid (even water) is totally impossible. You would screw up your electrolyte levels and knacker your kidneys well before drinking anywhere near that volume.

Hasn't California got better things to occupy its employees?

Jv. I agree sort of that it is crazy legislation, but on the other hand I like it.
I'll explain why. Though the threat of cancer may be minuscule, because 1 state requires a label they are changing their ingredients nationally.
A big issue here in the states is labelling genetically modified foods (GMO's). The FDA has said that they are no different from regular foods using the line "if it looks like corn, it is corn". In other words they are doing no testing at all on the safety of GMO foods.
All it will take is one state to pass a law requiring the labelling of GMO foods to bring about a huge change in that industry.
We can't trust the FDA to have our best interests, so we have to go to the state level.

If you drank as much as you would have to drink (1000 bottles a day EVERY day for a significant period of time) - you'd die first of too much liquids.

I think it's stupid. When you list everything that might - in crazy, unreal, impossible circumstances - cause cancer....people begin to disbelieve the warnings.

The warnings should be reserved for REAL and SIGNIFICANT risks. This doesn't qualify. What we know is that after many years this particular risk has not become a public health hazard - but changing to another ingredient means starting the testing all over again. How dumb is that?

If knowing what kind of sweeteners and other chemicals is going into making that stuff isn't enough to put someone off their cola, I'm not sure if they are even worried enough about the health issues in soda to bother labeling the crap at all. LOL.

Aspartame should be illegal. Even the guy that invented it won't touch it. That, to me, is the first clue to leave something alone.
